Title: Caloric intake of powerlifters vs. bodybuilders diet
Post by: JK on May 04, 2026, 04:38:40 AM
How is it possible for elite bench pressers like Scot Mendelson, Ryan Kennelly, and Glen Chabot, weighing around 320 lbs, to eat 10,000 calories a day and remain relatively lean, looking like off-season bodybuilders while training at a low volume?

Meanwhile, bodybuilding heavyweights of the same size consume around 5,000-6,000 calories in the off-season and train at significantly higher volumes?

All of them take massive doses of GH, so what accounts for such a large calorie difference to maintain their weight?

they dont, no one is eating 10k cals a day for a prolonged period of timed, you would end up with digestive overload

a human digestive systen cant maintain that level of digestion

Most powerlifters can't even count that high.

It's possible they're overestimating their daily calorie intake, but I know some of powerlifters intentionally smoke weed just to be able to eat more, not to mention the constant use of insulin.

They're not simply overestimating or forgetting to carry the 4. They're lying and embellishing to fool people.

Probably because bodybuilders would  "clean out" and stop the drugs in the off season whilst powerlifters kept their foot on the gas.

Also modern off season bodybuilders don't get as fat as Lee Priest did with his KFC diet or Jay Cutler. Off season the still have visible abs and guys like Lunsford still has ripped glutes.

They're not eating 10,000 consistently, the diets are very zig-zaggy. I remember on Outlaw Powerlifting, some big known guys would post their diets, and it would be something like -

"Day 1 - Went to meatfest 2013 with wife, came home, ate 2 boxes of Little Debbie Starcakes, and had leftover ice cream." "Day 2 - Shitting up a storm, didn't eat much", "Day 3 - Feeling better, had McD's, wife made tacos."

When you averaged out a week, it was much less than 10,000 a day, maybe on the high end 2/3's of that.

It takes approx. 72 hours for food to go from the in-door to the out-door.

Just some trivia for you.

thats why 10k cals a day is impossible, you would have to stagger your daily intake only hitting the 10k every 10 days as a maximum.. truth is you would just be a huge fat fuc regardless

the difference between the slowest and fastest metabolims for someone with the same LBM is around 600cals tops

Didn’t Michael Phelps eat 10,000 calories a day when he was swimming professionally? Probably explains his weed smoking. I’m not fat, a bodybuilder or a powerlifter and I’ve eaten probably 8-10,000 calories a day on an all day drinking and food binge like a tailgate or something. I regularly eat 4,000 calories or more a day.

Caked on fecal matter on the white seats, windshield wipers on full speed smearing feces all over the windshield, and the car was probably parked in the hot sun with the windows up.

Andrew Smaev eats 15000+ calories in his bulking phase.

All depends on your body mass. Most people would get fat af on 1/3 of that

That's what puzzles me. No bodybuilder his size consumes even half as many calories in the off-season as he or any other strength athlete, despite the higher training volume and cardio.

Probably in a high surplus. And only for shorter periods he eats like that. He is also 340lbs.

Also his workouts are long as I understand and he also works a job at a factory. So high activity level as well.
