Title: Now that Spirit Airlines has shut down

WorldStar HipHop will probably see a 40% decline in uploaded content.  Gotta admit, those airport fights were hysterical.

I flew on Spirit a few times from Phoenix to Charlotte. Literally the worst airline I had ever experienced.

Back when they had their $9 each way fares to various cities, it was worthwhile.  For under $30 you could get a round trip ticket to some good places as long as you could depart on certain days (usually Sunday and Tuesdays) and return on certain days (Wednesday and Thursday).  A group of friends would wait and see what dropped each week and then take off if there was something interesting like NYC or DC or Puerto Rico.

Choosing "cheap" as your brand modus operandi only works if you have long term sustainable advantage on costs. They were price takers on fuel and the airports themselves don't lower gating fees just because "I'm the cheap brand". Too many uncontrollable costs...just a matter of time. And flying is a luxury service (even at those ridiculous prices) for their consumer base; it's not like consumer confidence is at an all time high this year. Higher costs, lower consumption, and rather tough inflation to swallow the past decade, and it all added up to a dying quail.

Personally, I only flew Spirit once (someone else booked the tickets, so I had no choice). It was something I wouldn't repeat, or recommend.

Their clientele was interesting to say the least. I hated having to share space with the people on Spirit; there's a bit of decorum needed in an airport to make the experience tolerable. Spirit clientele didn't help. If they had their own terminal, I could have lived with all that.

As one person said above: "The waffle house of the sky". So true.

There is a reason they were so cheap. The pilots were probably the worst of the worst as well.

Flew them one time. Worst tray table on any flight.

You're lucky you landed in one piece.

Honestly, the pilots seemed to be up to the industry standards and the flights were very smooth.

But having seats that didn't recline was unbearable, the clientele were literally as another poster said - Waffle House in the Sky, and the add on charges for everything made it just an airline I took when everything else was booked.

Diametrically opposed to them were the Asian Airlines, like Singapore or KAL. The best flying experiences ever. Even South African Airlines were incredible.

I didn’t like it the one time I tried them.
I saw someone say they actually had an impeccable safety record though.

Waffle House should have been contracted to serve the meals. The passengers would have felt right at home.

I flew them once with my family because it was a straight shot to Orlando. We booked far enough out we got the front larger seats. Wasn’t terrible but the seats weren’t comfortable and you had to pay for anything you wanted. I typically fly Delta but will make an exception now and then if it’s a straight flight with no layover.

Ain't gonna lie.  You can get some good food - healthy too - at Waffle House.  Back in college the Waffle House on Buford Highway was a popular spot with the crowd from Main Event Fitness (then Ropeman's  Fitness) and the Gold's Gym that Ric Flair once owned.

Two grilled chicken breasts, two scrambled eggs, one order hashbrowns, (toss the bread) and it was $9.79.

It’s been a long time but that was my same goto meal at Waffle House during college and post-college

Never had a problem with Waffle House food either! But the crowd gets pretty sketchy here in South Carolina. The cops are always visiting them. The closest one to where I work has now shifted to take-out only after the cops visited last time.

All of the 90+ A320 jets were leased and have already been reassigned by their leasing companies to JetBlue and Frontier.

The leasing companies involved are AerCap, Sky Leasing and SMBC.

Me too.  But I am sure that $9.79 meal we all had back then would be $20 now.

Cruiselines with over 5,000 "guests" per ship and where adults literally shit in the large open air pool. Must be the experience of a lifetime   ;D

I read there was a crowdfunding effort to save the airline that’s over $300 million at this moment. Where does that money go if they can’t buy the airline, do the donations go back?
