Title: Praying in the gym?
Post by: 240 is Back on May 08, 2006, 03:37:00 PM
How many of you say a prayer before attempting a lift in the gym?

Today I did deadlifts and found myself saying a little prayer before going for a max.

Team Jesus, speak on this!

If Jesus and God did exist, with over 3 billion people on this little rock in a small corner of this vast universe, do think they would really care about you deadlifting 135 lbs?  Get real.

perhaps some choose to pray to allah, or to their lord of choice.

i was worried about a hernia... weird pulling pain in my abs... so i figured it couldn't hurt to wake up my guardian angel before maxing.  I did, however, fail to get 405 all the way up :(

I know this is kind of a joke thread but I do pray before every workout--just that I can do my best, be focused, motivated, smart and intense and stay safe.  I guess it's part of my little pre-workout ritual.

I read years ago that John Brown did the same thing and I'm sure many others do, too.

240, there is never too much praying. There's always something to pray about. Most people just stop when they are done praying for themselves, but they could do the right thing and pray for others who don't pray as often or don't pray at all.

ok confession time..

First year I started training at 15 years old I was already working up to the 80s for 8-10 reps. But I was having a lot of trouble with the bench press. Thats when i made it my friend and now we get along so well.  :)

Anyways I think God intended us to take care of ourselfs body and mind. To build a strong temple and not to abuse it.

lifting weights is no greater deed than writing good music or playing good golf or pool or anything else. if a person only lifted weights and nothing according to God's will he wouldn't have God's aproval. if he lifting no weights but did everything else according to God's will it would be a lot better.
