Title: Roland Kickinger
Post by: Condor on May 10, 2006, 09:45:18 AM
This pic was taken 6 weeks out from the 97 ASC.  I don't ever remember him making the top 15 in any major contest, but I always thought he had great potential, and could have been as big as anybody.  I think he retired around 2000.  What could have been....

He was too tall to place well, 6"4; to compete with the top guys he would have had to weigh 350 onstage.

I think he was getting there.....I know, he had more to fill out than even Gunter.

his acting got in the way. I think he wrote that he intentionally competed 40 lbs lighter than what he could have becuase casters or directors didn't want him to be too bulky. I remember the old Ironman cover where it asked if Kickenger would be the next Arnold. He did play Arnold in See Arnold Run, so I guess that cover was more right than it could have anticipated . . .

I'd have to say he looks decently massive in that shot though.

I think he got smart and realized there was no money in BBing. I can't say he is making tons of money acting but he seems to be doing better.

He is most recently in a commercial (can't remember which) doing a spinoff of Fabio.....

I always liked the dude, I thought he had a good build and he was pretty funny. He didn't seem like he was afraid to laugh at himself.

Nothing worse than a bodybuilder that can't be self depricating.

I remember back in the day (late 90's) when Roland and Gunter were neck-and-neck usually at the bottom of any given contest.  This was before Gunter made huge improvements.  I'd almost go so far as to say that Roland had better genetics to start with, and maybe could have been better than Gunter is now.  Who knows.

He stopped competing to focus on his acting career----he was in Son of the Beach (TV), various commercials, Lethal Weapon 4, and the A&E Arnold biopic "See Arnold Run," as Arnold himself.

He has been on alot more than that he has made appearances on Tool Time and a host of other shows as well as many commercials, Son of the Beach did well considering the time when it aired wasnt up for spoofs and mockery, also the network was going through a whole change at the time. I did not like how Bill Phillips mocked him in his Body for Life video, he went up ro roland and asked his dreams Roland said somethign like "to make millions and be famous" bill replied "so you think getting big will take you there" Then walked off shking his head and smirking, when he also was on the same path way back when but had NO GENETICS TO GET PAST 215lbs

Roland is one BB who is actually making a good living in Hollywood.  He has numeorus national commercials (where the money is at) and has appeared in numerous shows.  His part playing Arnold was not a big payday for him but got him some publicity and looks good on his resume.  Cable shows do not pay anywhere near what network TV pays.

What role did he play in Lethal Weapon 4?

He played a cop on the force, as part of the new recruits that Chris Rock was in.  It was a very small role, no speaking parts, but he can be seen in the locker room with his shirt off when Riggs and Murtaugh are seated on the bench saying "we're not too old for this shit."  I think there's a couple other places he can be seen just wearing the typical cop shirt and tie.
