Title: How many of you use an mp3 player in the gym?
Post by: 240 is Back on May 11, 2006, 10:45:37 PM
I am using one tomorrow for the first time.   Just figured I'd get your take on if it really improves things- or if it's more of a distraction/pain in the ass.  Will be doing thighs, hams, calves. thanks!

I have a I-pod shuffle and I love it.

it is the size of a cig lighter and the sound quality is awesome.

I wear it like a neckless and it holds 100 songs

one of the best gym accessories I ever bought

I talk to people too damn much in the gym to wear one, lol.   Also I'm worried the wire will get in my way.  A wireless ipod would be nice which you can get.

Ipod/Mp3 players are sick, just not in the gym.  I find it to big of a distraction.  Always looking for the right song, headphones always falling out.  But whatever...

Yea.  Also I'm always somewhere where I can listen to music,  my computer, my car.  At other times I don't want to listen to music so I wouldn't even use an mp3 player.

Yeah 240, iPods are cool.  Probably moreso for cardio than weights, as it's more fun to converse amongst friends while lifting than listen to an iPod whose wires and playlist you've gotta keep a constant eye on...although in the final weeks before a show you'll probably start donning it anytime you're outsida your house...kinda helps keep you a more tolerable distance from the "sheeple."  :-\

Waste of time/concentration... In my opinion if you need music to get motivated, you may have larger problems.

My gym is housewife central during the day.  I'm smart enough not to talk to em. As I eat more protein, i have found I can now train longer, and it gets mighty boring spending 75 minutes alone in the leg area.  Tomrrow I will have classic aerosmith, old tool, and some assorted jay-z on this old samsung i found today.

Is that code for something I should be concerned about commenting back to you (in code) on?  Because otherwise, I'm just gonna leave that one alone.

I don't think it is a pain or nothing it helps me.    Just run the headphone cord inside your shirt.

That's what I mean.. getting bored at the 75th minute mark would mean to me you gotta find another hobby that can hold your concentration... Man, if I had the energy and the $$ in the bank.. I would spend the whole day working out.  ;D

See, my problem is, I work very fast and very efficiently all day long, multitasking while working here in the recliner.  It's hard to sit still at the gym between sets. My mind starts wandering to work I have to do, and then I'm watching the clock...

I love my MP3 player. It took me a while to get one but now that I've got it, it's-  "Lights out, rear shuffle-loop,ain't nothing but a wing-nut, turn-over fun"  This last sentence was phenomenal.

i just did a website for a tanning company in NZ.  Everything is super expensive there, right? a .nz domain name costs like 8 times what it costs in the US

Its not that everything is really expensive.. its just that they extort for co.nz and .com.au's

I don't believe there are any "true" factors making prices that high.  Just bullshit.

Tell any company that wants a .com.au to think about just using a .com

if your other option is listening to the fagg0t-ass "golds gym network" then its actually less of a distraction, IMO

Love the Mp3 player for my outside life, but have found it both too insulating and distracting (!?) in the gym. Also, when locked in, say, the hack squat, the last thing I need is a cord flipping around somewhere. Besides, I time my sets to allow me some chat time with the other 'older' lads.

I love working out with an mp3 player, that way people don't talk to me.
but every time I buy one, I lose it like 2 weeks later

If you're training using an mp3 player, you're likely not training with a partner and as I've experienced it is definite truth that a training partner or partners are extremely performance enhancing.

So is shitty music and metrosexuals doing half reps

Every training partners I had talked too much and it piss me off.
Sometimes I train with my friend, he is fucking strong but he takes like 10 minutes break between each set. I hate it

Lol, sometimes when a hard song comes on i can just close my eyes, with those dumbells on my knees, or that bar over my head or below me, and just do the set like that. lol.. seriously it helps me focus, i also find it kind of annoying when people tell me to 'take my headphones out' cos it annoys them when they try to speak to me.. wtf.

Myself and my co conspirators have a "no skirts" policy.  Any bullshitting or excessive rest taking will be accompanied by loud and obnoxious heckling.

We also heavily enforce no talking between each other during sets, no jokes, no nothing.  As anything seems to put you off if you're lifting.

(I did break boundaries by laying a choice piece of shit gas on someone tonight but it was on a shitty isolation machine and thus didn't count).

I've been working out for decades and I can tell you from experience fellas, it gets boring at some point or other, horribly so.  If I can listen to music that will make me feel jacked, fantasize about being ... say Ronnie when I do rows then I will most likely have a great workout.  Without the added tricks, things get boring, I start checking out all the gym hoes and totally loose focus.  I think a lot of guys can relate to what I'm saying here.  Do whatever helps you get ya grind on.
