So we've heard a bunch of ripping and complaining about the shows this week. I'm curious to see how many actually even show up at local shows to support bodybuilding since you want to see it thrive.
-
I prefer local events over pro ones, to me it is the real sport in those events.
Pro events are fun and great to socialize, etc
I also still judge,
-
I go to shows to check out the expos ;) and if friends of mine are competing.
-
I basically attend shows when my friends are competing as well....I haven't attended a pro show in about 6 or 7 years. I remember a few years ago people used to buzz about the Pro Shows around the gyms, but even that's died off.
-
I go to as much show as I can.
this spring I will see 1 regional show, 1 provincial and the montreal pro show september 3rd ! :D
-
I go to shows only in NY and for the "Big Show" in Vegas.

This is prety typical, I used to go out of my way to go to pro events, not so these days, in fact you don't here much about it at most gyms now. Go figure?

The prices of pro events are ridiculous, I've only been to two and not sure if I'll go to another one, $90 + CAD for a ticket, screw that!!

So it's not just me. ;D
I think the majority has to do with the product. Shows were just as boring a few years ago, but people came to see certain guys compete. I knew people who idolized Kevin Levrone, Shawn, flex, Nasser....and they would all be pumped to see these guys in person.
Now I don't know many folks dying to go and see Melvin Anthony or Dexter Jackson. I really think bodybuilding has lost its star quality even amongst bodybuilding fans.

How much does a good seat cost at a local show?

Much better than the $50 I paid to see the Arnold from a distance :-\
-
local shows are much better than pro shows it is pure and get to know local katz doing there thing
-
In Australia, it costs barely anything to go to a local BB comp..
Do a lot of people go? Or only serious fans?
-
local shows 20$ a ticket no more
-
We in Australia get F*** all coverage of PRO BB. Weight training is very popular in Aus, but bodybuilding per se is a novelty event. I cant even remember the last time I saw MD (you ocasionally see fles, M&F and sometimes musclemag) on a newstand, and I live and work in the biggest city in the country!.
It's all a novelty when a big name pro like Gunter comes to town (so funny, they get roped into doing strongman stunts). Usually, its fans and family who go, not for the general population.. The publicists are crap.
I guess your countrymen prefer other athletic activities. Is swimming the most popular?
-
swimming is huge, when there is a big event, its on primetime.. the national championships was televised live on the biggest network for the whole week.
on a week to week basis the big events are Rugby league/union, AFL (Australian football) and cricket.
In the US you guys a comparably flooded with BB
What is the difference between Rugby and Australian football? ??? I want to go to Australia some time and go snorkelling , but I can't swim and would quicky die :-\

I have gone to everything within an hours' drive form my house for the last year. Too many old ppl down here in SW Florida though... we get one NPC show a year and a lot of PLing meets.

isnt the ocean like kryptonite for a black man?
-
Totally different rules, the only similarity is the shape of the ball ;D .. snorkelling is fun.. should you ever visit let me know... Sydney is a bit like California (without the smog) and a bit smaller, less populated and not as much silicone ;)
I liked living in California except for the smog and teenage punks ;D Yeah, the ocean might as well be Davey Jones's locker for most black men :-[
-
im pretty sure its a fear of creatures in the ocean that they dont know about/can't see
-
Why is that?? not enough BF to keep afloat? ;D .. time to get some synthol... ;D
I think it's just lack of experience with water. Or at least I hope it is :-\. But a case of synthol certainly wouldn't hurt ;D Should I inject directly into the veins to get it to distribute evenly throughout my body? ;D
-
I usually do 2 shows a yr. As far as men's bbing... you need to know someone in the show, or it's completely dead, a sleeper. Cant talk myself into seeing the current pros.
-
Great question my Man. I doubt a lot of guys in this board attend these bodybuilding shows. I live in the east coast near washington D.C, I've attended all east coast shows, NY PRO, I traveled often to the Arnold classic, the only shows I've never been is the MR Olympia, and this year I'm going to vegas for the olympia

Sorry but I'm a girl. ;D
I've been to all of the shows except NOC. I've been to the Olympia and the Arnold (which used to be my favorite)
The Arnold had more professionalism than the Olympia and treated the competitiors how they deserved to be treated. You could tell the event was really run well.

I honestly believe if we werent bodybuilding fans or we didnt love the life...we wouldnt be on these forums. We're all fans here...we should all support the industry. I feel it is almost like my duty to attend all the local shows.
Here in Chicago...there are alot of shows...pretty much every month from April-Sep. Sometimes 2 in a month. Southern Wisconsin or northwest Indiana has shows so I try to make it to them as well. The only pro show I attend is the ASC.

Only schmoes and hoes go to bb comps.
