Title: Crybabies at the gym that demand silence
Post by: VY_BUFF on June 17, 2006, 02:27:01 PM
Was just at the gym for a back workout and this chick that works there asks me make less noise cuz they could hear the weights slamming from the front desk.  I dont really understand why people cry about a little noise at the gym.  If these people want silence they should either go to a library or suck on a desert eagle.

Then it just hits me, the only people that ever complained to me about slamming weights are unfit people that sign up to the gym just so they could say they work out.  These are the same people who dont show any improvements after 6 months of (training).  Can you imaging if arnold was told to be quiet while he trained at Gold's in the 70s.

The reason people slam weights is because they are going intense; working out with heavy weights that they cant really control to the fullest.  the only way to keep a gym quiet is for people to work out with weights they can do for 12 reps.  people will never get stronger or build powerful looking physiques.

next time you hear weights being slammed, just keep on working out.  You should be so concentrated on your set that a little noise or other distractions should not bother you.  if someone makes noise for the sake of being annoying, then just let them.  Ignore them, having true character is not only knowing what's right or wrong, but to not be bothered by little insignificant matters.  If people are really being an asshole, just key up they car.  It'll make you feel better.

exactly, why work out to the sound of men breathing heavy, when you can have the music of your choice.
For the cheapos out there, mp3s are mad inexpensive.

i dont condemn noise at the gym, i promote it.  It makes a gym a gym and not a public library with weights.

a buddy of mine was talking to me the other day and all of a sudden this old hippie starts giving him shit because he said the word "fuck" once or twice...    anyway... we start laughing at her and she walks away... 10 minutes later i see her doing yoga in the ab training area WITHOUT shoes on... nonono... not in a proper gym...   then she put her mat away with whiping it down... so i went to the front desk and made a complaint.... and after they called her into the office as she was leaving i ran up to her saying "hey i just want to apoligize..."   she turns around and i say... "oh... right... fuck you, you fucking hippie girl...." softly enough that only she heard it.... she turned white and ran out of the gym...

i am not a very nice person... fucking hippies... maybe next time i will drop a dumbbell on her foot... that should keep her out of the gym for a while....

I think one simple rule will solve this problem:

If the person slamming weights and making noise is bigger than you, keep your damn mouth shut and deal with it.

"bothered by little insignificant matters"  And yet you fume, log onto getbig, and write an article over an insignificant comment that someone made.    So.........do you see where I'm going with this?

yeah, i finally see
here's what i think
you have 1640 posts, which means you are a complete loser
i have 20 and i find that a bit much
bro, you need to let go of the keyboard and get in the gym
hostilities aside, i am real proud of you for finding inadequacies in my post
i will try to to be less ironic in my future posts
thank you

but 1640 posts
damn son, you need to kill yourself on the asap

know what...
funny stuff aside, i made this post to espress my frustrations with people that want the gym to be completely noise free area.  all i wanted was some feedback so i can see who's with me and who's against my views.  this isnt a grade 7 english essay, so you dont have to overanalyse my "article" for conflicting arguments.

So, when you wrote this post were you only looking for the approval of people with a low post count?   Because you just stated anyone with a high post count is a loser, and you even said your own 20 is too much.  So, are you looking for the anonymous approval of people with less  than 20 posts?

What is really sad about weed is that most of his 1640 posts are about another member here :)

Regarding the issue at hand, if they can hear it from front desk chances are you are cold dropping it.  I don't know whether that is true of course I'm just going by what you are saying but personally I think cold dropping is lame as it goes beyond function.  Yes you are lifting a weight that is heavy for you but fact of the matter is that we are all stronger lowering a weight than lifting it so I'm sure if you wanted to you could atleast control the drop.  Not to mention the fact that you must be dropping a decent frequency to have someone come up to you and complain.

It'd be nice to just drop shit all the time but its really not necessary in anything other than your most heavy sets.

Sadder is, I seem to remember how he looks because someone posted his pic some time ago.

"STFU And Train" is a line that somehow comes with that memory.

So true...I have been lifting with all best bodybuilders in this country, I have seen how some IFBB pro's train and I have to say there isn't much of slamming weights with those guys. No yelling, no slamming, they just do what they have come to do, which is lift weights. Then there are guys who are just about wannabe bodybuilders who want to make some noise while training...Usually they are teenagers doing biceps or bench presses, nothing more. They should learn number 1 rule of weight training: Only thing in the gym which you have to impress, is that muscle which you are training. Everything else is futile. So simple. Instead of trying to impress some chicks or some pencil neck nerds with all that slamming and yelling, try to impress that muscle what you are training for a change  ;D

I went into the gym today and loaded every 2.5lbs plate in the gym on the bar.  Slammed each one as hard as I could.  Tink! Tink!.... Tink! Tink!... Two broke. It looked really weird with all those little plates out to the end of the bar!  Then I asked the biggest guy I could find for a spot.  No response so I proceeded to bench.  1... 2... 3... Then I tipped the bar unloading a pile of tiny plates TINK TINK TINKTINKTINKTTHKTTink... .. Next side TINK TINK TINKTINKTINKTTHKTTink... ..  Stood up and announced loudly, SQUAT TIME!!! and headed for the squat rack. ;D

The louder you slam the weights, chances are the smaller your dick is.

If you're strong enough to lift the weights off the ground then you should be strong enough to put them on the ground in the same manner.

Most people in my gym walk around with ear phones on then, the radio is loud downstairs and the 10 TV's on upstairs, no one can ever hear you when you ask for a spot or if a machine is free so I don't see how a little "Gym Noise" should bother anybody...
