I am a big dude but my traps are lagging........is heavy shrugs the best thing for them ?

BB shrugs, DB shrugs, Machine shrugs, high pulls, upright rows and deadlifts...some work better for others. i barely train my traps because they get so much work from deadlifts and upright rows. make sure you are using full range of motion and hold the weight at the top and squeeze for a second or two during every rep.

i too, just do bb and db's shrugs. just plain and simple. when your doing with traps, its a muscle group that has a hand in most movements. i.e. shoulders, back even squats and lungs and any kind of deadlifts. i say lunges, bc after some walking lunges with db's your traps are on fire..

Great book suggested by Bluto. So many versions of the common shrug, so little time. Kelso bar's can be very rewarding with regards to trap mass. As it's brother the trap/DL bar. With the hands in a more natural grip, thumbs forward, great results can be expected. Good Luck.
