Your probably developed thicker muscle in that area. If you can lay a nickle between the sections of the abs quite well, until it's almost hidden, than you have a great muscular structure. Good Luck and congrat's.

My opinion, that's the way males are. We just collect the most fat around our gut. Just like females, collect the most fat around there hips. Run and loose the belly fat. You loose some mass on the way gain it back. You'll still be able to do this, while keeping off the belly fat. How’s your diet, it could be because of that.

my diet is just starting to get better. I was just wondering why you can see my abs better now that my waist has gotten bigger

If you train them with weights, they grow like any other muscle. ::)

OldSchool Flip is correct. Treating the abs like any other muscle group, with regards to reps (8-12) and sets (2-3), produces muscular size. With heavy development you can put that nickle (quarter better) between the ridges of the abs. If anyone is doing endless set after set of high rep ab work, than chances are the abs will be outlined but never as impressive when fully developed. Will the waist measurement become larger? Sometime and sometimes not. If an inch is added, than that should be pure muscle. A washboard set of abs is going to set you apart from most of the other BB'ers. When the diet is controlled, with less bodyfat percentage, than everything else will fall into place for a shock & awe ab development. Good Luck.

One of my favorites is to hook a close grip handle to the pulldown machine.  Then sit down facing away from the machine.  Crunch down like you're hitting an ab shot.  Nothing can beat it in my book.
