Title: Don Long making the case he can compete
Post by: 240 is Back on July 19, 2006, 04:18:28 PM
Don Long on Muscle radio

On his past: "I had 7 years of hell.  This have gotten much better. "

On his health now: "My lab/blood work - in 99% of the areas- almost normal.  Kidnesy issues show up abnormal, but even those are minimal.  My health is great.  I'm always cautious, so I do take things slower, but other than that, I go just as hard as any other guy.

On his new form of dialysis: "With the 3-day a week dialysis, your average patient is weak.  With this new treatment, it brings your body feeling almost back to normal.  I can eat more (I eat minimum protein), I train much harder, my energy levels are normal.  I wake up, I feel great.

On his nocturnal dialysis: "I've learned the maching like the back of my hand.  I hook it up at night and run it 8 hours while i sleep, mimicking the normal kidney function.   It cleans my body just like a normal person's body, at night.  I do it 6 days a week, 8 hours a day.  Lab work checked once a month.  I can drink as much fluid as I want.

The IFBB has zero to gain by letting him take even a small risk.

His bid is doomed. Doomed, I say!

Nocturnal dialysis is quite remarkeable.

If I'm not mistaken, this is relatively new in Canada, I'm not sure how long it has been around in the US so far.

From the patients whom i'm spoken to, they have indicated that the difference between nocturnal dialysis and 3X HD is really marked.

I'm still shocked that Don Long is able to look the way he does while on Dialysis, if he competes (and is alive afterwards to talk about it) it would truly be an inspiration.

Anabolics are mostly metabolized in the liver.

But, having no kidneys eliminates the other excretory route for them .... so.... prolly not a good thing.

The IFBB has stated they will require a note from Don's doctor, in which the doctor assume full liability for him competing, signed 24 hours before the show.

I'm not sure that's exactly reasonable.  What doctor would ever sign such a paper, even for a pro Bber WITH 2 good kidneys?  Plus I think this would mean his doc will hae to travel with him to AC for the show?

And whose malpractice insurance would cover such an outlandish scheme?

Doomed, I say!

Sounds like they wanted to deny him so they gave him an unreasonable list.  This way, they can prevent him, then just say he didn't clear medical standards.

Why don't they require EVERY IFBB competitor to come up with a letter from a doc claiming all liability, 240 hours prior to a show?

This guy is a real piece of work.

Something for his sister to think about as she's sitting on the toilet with doubled frequency for the rest of her life.
