I was thinking about getting one, just for fun. Would it be reasonable of me to think i could use a #2, despite never having trained with any grippers before?
Also, do you think grippers can significantly enhance forearm development?

I know they work well with grip strengthening, but as far as putting mass on your forearms they would help I'd throw them in along with wrist curls and reverse curls.#2 might be a bit much if you've never used one start with the #1 unless you have unuasaly strong grip.have fun :)

Hard to say. I have a pretty strong grip, can do rack deads with 800 without straps (alternate grip) and I still couldn't close the #2 at first. Depends on the leverages in your hand a lot I think. Getting strong on gripping strength is agonizingly slow as well. I trained for a few months only to be able to do a few reps with the #2. Then I tired of it.

I used to do wrist curls while driving with my grippers. CLose the grippers and keep them closedwhile curling your wrist. Awesome exercise and cool to do while driving or during a stop light.

If you really want to improve your grip strength, a Rolling Thunder would be a good idea IMO.
Either build one, or order one.
Grippers could be fun. As always, don't go too heavy all the time. The trainer and the #1 used in combination works for most people at first.
Gradually working the #2 into it.
Randall Strossen is a POS for changing the rules of certification on the #3 and #4.
Get this, he changes the rules, makes it much harder to close it, but won't erase past entries.
POS.

PS
Yes. I happen to know someone who got screwed out of certification on the #4 due to Strossen's primadonna acts.

Question is if COC is the one to go for these days, there's other brands out there...
Might want to try the Ivanko Super Gripper since it's not as limited

How did he change the rules?

I have the trainer the 1# & 2#. I have quite small hands so they are quite tricky. They are fun to play with. I can close the 1# and am close with the 2#. No point buying the 3# i highly doubt id ever get it closed. ;D
-
You won't want the #2 cause I guarantee you won't close it if you've never used one before... unless you're a beast. They are nothing like you're average gripper. Get the trainer and work up from there. You need to do at least ten reps before thinking of the next step up.

I got the #1 and #2 a few weeks ago. I have never used grippers before, and could close the #2 after a week. And I am no beast.
-
Did you introduce yourself as "sarcasm"?
Don't you mean that the other guy introduced himself to sarcasm? Pecking order.

Yes you are!
-
Do they make a #6 and 7? If so, I'll consider buying.
-
The rule change he introduced was that you're not allowed to use the other hand to place the gripper in your gripping hand.
Before you were allowed to tweak and twist it all you wanted, what mattered was if you did the closing with the hand or not.
I'm fine with changing the rules.
But clean out all past entries then.
No fcuking way Kinnear or Samuelsson could even consider close the #4 with the current rules.
It should be the same for everyone.
I think Strossen saw all these guys getting certified on the #3. Which would take away from the exclusivity of the CoC club.
Basically, a lot of people train for grip strength these days. I know at least 5 guys who can close the #3. And that was considered extremely difficult a few years ago.

that's gay, you should be allowed to position it in your hand any way you want to just as long as you close it with one hand, the only guys who could even do the number 3 thaat way are Brookfield or Sorin because they train that way by hanging the gripper on a string and close it with just one hand without positioning it.

The guy who didn't get the #4 certification has done 23 reps with the #3.
I am not even close to even thinking about closing that one. Recently closed #2 when I tried it, only one of the hands though.

i got the number 2 for 7 reps and barely got the 3 halfway, this is when i could farmers walk a pair of 225lb. tanks, i couldn't come close to that now, those grippers are way tougher than people think.

Getting the #2 for anything above 5 reps is respectable as hell IMO.

the difference between the #2 and the #3 is mind boggling, i couldn't believe how hard the three was when i tried it.
