in the latest Flex there's a chest article with Ahmad Haidar and he claims to bench press 455 for 6, it also shows a pic of him supposedly inclining 5 plates per side, whaddya think?

I think FLEX is a lyin, steamin bag of dogcrap.

I would rather believe someone telling me they overheard Danielson say, "Sorry, I don't swallow".
-
He is seen holding the weight. We don't see him actually do it. Usually there are spotters on hand that get out of the pic. Also, he is dieted down so, i'm prety sure it was not an actual workout. Also, bbers usually lie about the weight they use and how much they weigh. Flex and other mags usually use fake wheels for their shoots
-
In contest condition no less.
This is just as bad as Earl1972 saying he doesn't want to swallow a hot mouthful of...ok I've said too much.
are you insinuating that Earl has personally tasted Levrone's ball gravy, Matt?
-
I dont.... take any of the oics in flex seriosuly or claims...
some of the dubios claims i have seen
eddie abbew..
bench 630 for 6 reps
ernie taylor bench 540 for 6 reps
also a lot of pics of pros using
5 plates for bench no spotter..
claude groulx.. markus rul....
there is one of art atwood i think inclining 6 plates.... with are milos spotting..
...
i dont go by any of that stuff.. i go by videos...
it always shows who is bullshitting....
eg in an 2001 copy of flex.. i think it had.... an whole article on victor martinez talkin about... heavy inclining.. and how he inclines 5 plates for 6 reps....
...
when i saw him on video.. h was struggling with 3 plates on the smith machine...

i know a dude who used to workout with Victor. I remember he did have a crazy bench, but i don't know about that much. i'll ask him when i talk to him.

lol no way! I read in MD that Victor was able to do a couple of sets with 315 for 10 reps at 19 years old!
-
Yeah but that was probably offseason. Nobody really lifts heavy in contest shape (except:Branch and Jo.Jackson)
The flex pics are bullshit.
Look at JP Fux...tore the living shit out of his legs doing a photo-shoot with way too much weight.
The last week before a show, and the week after, the strength is not fully there, so it's insane to think they can do those weights.
They stage it, it sells the mag, and Ben Weider goes home and swims in his diamond-encrusted jacuzzi. ;)
The videos are the best way to judge it.

That really isn't all that unbelievable. I was very close to that at the same age.
-

and what exactly are you lifting now?

your very strong dude. You always been natural?
-
Monster rubber weights!!!!!!!!

I think FLEX is a lyin, steamin bag of dogcrap.
you could have just said FLEX = goodrum
-
Take a close look at the article....real plates are on the outside for "camera purposes" and the 3 fakes one are in the middle.
Haidar is not that strong. That's Coleman weight!!! Haidar is like a third of his size.
Com'mon FLEX magazine! Be real for once!

FLEX MAG USES FAKE PLATES NOW.EVER SINCE PEOPLE STARTED GETTING HURT.
THEY WILL PUT ON ONE OR TWO REAL PLATES THEN THE FAKE ONES.

Smart move I guess after Jp Fux got crushed doing a squat photo shoot.
-
Fux wished they had loaded the bar with some fakes.BOOOM.
-
great thread. sherlock sarcasm just discovered that professional bodybuilders lie as much as he and mos does about how much they lift ::)
-
i think flex etc should keep on having the pros use real weights so guys like sarcasm can say "hey that guys is really strong!" and if the pro hurts himself in the process, so what? it's more important to impress 34 year old kids obsessed with strength.
-
i think they should press fluffy animals instead of weights
-

Lee Preist telling it like it is as usual, this guy is the most honest pro out there.
-
yeah fake plates! this has never been discussed before!!!!!
-
Quite possibly the strongest presser in the history of bodybuilding. He also had endurance so sick that even Ronnie Coleman might not be able to keep up:
that was literally one of the craziest things i've ever seen he did the 505 for 1 then the spotters stripped a 35 off each side WHILE HE WAS HOLDING THE BAR AT LOCKOUT then banged 2 reps with 435, then 4 with 365, then 2 or 3 with 295 and ended with 5-6 with 225.
-
where's that pic of the girl with fake weights, doing curls with 405 or something? :)
-
Yeah, it's one thing that he can lift 505 for a single, but to have all that endurance is just ridiculous. More genetic than anything I would say. I can even say that I don't think Ronnie is stronger than Bertil when it comes to pressing movements. As strong as - maybe. But stronger, I don't think so.
what amazed me about Bertil was how far past failure he would go on dumbbell pressing movements, just rep after rep after rep.
-
BEEF IT!
-
The mags have been lying forever. I remember reading nearly 20 years ago that Fox was supposedly capable of benching 525 for six. 505 for one is awesome, but it is nowhere near 525*6. I also read where Viator supposedly inclined 525 for six... ::)
I also remember about that time reading an old mag from even further back - around the time Tim Belknap was turning pro (early eighties). There was an article in M&F written by Mike Mentzer claiming that Tim benched 485 for ten and squatted 655 for twenty. I was told a few years ago (by a guy who trained in the same gym with him back then) that the article added at least 100 pounds to the bench and 150 to the squat.
-
i remeber last year i saw art atwood doing 4 or 5 plates on the incline smiling during the reps. oh my god. if thats real weight theres no way he would be smiling.
-
the pictures of Markus Ruhl incling 5 plates wearing sunglasses are believable - after all he inclined 495 in his dvd for 6 or 8
Ruhl is strong
Those 6 plate Art Atwood "fear-factor partials" are the dumbest and most unsafe idea ever.
-
Onlyme saw bertil bench 500 x 5 without a warmup!

For BETIL, 500x5 WAS the warmup.

he was hype and nothing esle...his form was aweful and with aweful form any pro can lift that weight...bertil was nothing but a hyped bitch..h e only had thick arms and thats it..he would get dwarfed by a mile by todays pros..

Have you ever seen the gimmick plates they have for shoots today? They are amazing and look exactly like a real 45 but weigh about 10-15 pounds.
-
I heard one time that Bertil went to the movies, afterwards in the parking lot he found out someone had parked a truck in front of his car so he couldn't get out - he then went under the truck, benchpressed it explosively for 1 rep getting it outta the way, got in his car and drove home.
True story.
-

It's ok to use fake wheels.
But it's not ok to fake the poundages used. Ahmad Haider isn't using 5 wheels for his workouts. Dorian went to 435 lbs for 8 reps in the incline benchpress I believe.
Fcuking piece of shit mag.
No integrity. They need to keep the bodybuilders who they shoot true to their poundages. It's their good damn duty as journalists. And they know it.
YIP

Oh well...I guess it boils down to this now...
Fake Mexican gear + Fake Synthol (no that's still real) + Fake Plates = Fake weak ass Pro trying to believe he's still as strong as he looks.
Lets hear it sarcasm....."ALL DRUGS"!!!!!!! ;D
-
Well, in MD, John Romano once said that he wasn't aka Dirt Diggler and that he was 230 and shredded in his pime, and Paul Dimwit said that landed a $4.2 million contract with NHF. Just goes to show that bullshit is rampant in all bodybuilding mags.

Markus did the "495" on the Smith machine, nowhwere near the same as doing a barbell press with that much.

It's bullshit, just like your 550 squat for 5.
-
Not with those itty bitty ARMS...i cant even see Haidar pushing more than 3 plates a side...barely.
Are you really this stupid? Do you honesty think ripped 19" arms are small?
-
I am that stupid, yes...Haidars arms are not 19...and if they were 19 or even 20 for that matter...he still wouldnt be pushing the weight FLEX claims...
Haidar doesnt have anything to do with raw big basic free weight movements...he's a cable, Icarian and Life Fitness machine guy all the way.
-
Badell wrote in one of his columns that he and Ahmad went to the gym together once to train arms. He said that Haidar wanted to do nothing but cable work. They ended up training seperately that day.
-
I read that too I think...but I claim what I claim because I know and speak to on occasion a guy who trained with him in Florida and he told me he never even breaks a glisten of sweat when he trains...and after every set he wipes his whole body off with a towell...and how he will put gloves on for rope pulldowns for triceps and how for every bodypart...it's machines ONLY. Pre-Contest or OffSeason...nothing but machines...cables and more cables.
Thats why he doesnt have that strong thick look to him...in no way shape or form is he pressing anything more than 335lbs on the incline barbell press.
-
wow. he's like Jurrasic Paul without the genetics
-
he was hype and nothing esle...his form was aweful and with aweful form any pro can lift that weight...bertil was nothing but a hyped bitch..h e only had thick arms and thats it..he would get dwarfed by a mile by todays pros..
Dumbest post in history.
