Can you become a pt without any certification?
I know a friend just got a job at Bally's without certification but he's a exercise/phys major.
-
...you look like a personal trainer.
-
You can because it is not regulated by anyone but you will not be able to get insured. Bally's will certify him in-house but they are the only ones that recognize it.
-
Bally's is more concerned with sales than anything else. ::)
-
Can I lie and say I have certification? Will they check? :)
-
how much do pt's make?

how much do pt's make?
It's like $20/hr when you're training someone. I just want to job while I look for a job in my field with my degree.

Yes, some places do not require it, but they will more than likely want insurance!

This is true. Yes, you can usually get started at most gyms while you are obtaining a cert. Do you have an excersise phys degree or kines? That's usually better.
$20/hr to get started is good but I'd try to do it on your own. you'd make a TON more and your clients won't care if your certified.

If you go on you're own and not work for anyone, six figures is very possible 8)!!

I wouldn't lie. Obviously, they don't care about certs anyway. They're going to put you thru their own program anyway. If you have any sales background, just play that up.

demand a raise immediatly

Bast, make sure you set them up with some pro-hormones in addition to your personal training!

Ok here's how it works...I've worked for Bally's as a PT in Portland, Oregon for the last year or so.
Bally's will hire anyone with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field. They will also hire you for PT if you have a certification from a certain few compaines...They are really big on NASM. I believe you can go to their website and there is a list of acceptable certifications.
They also have it set up to where you can get hired as long as you get your certificaiton within 90 days. That is kind of a case by case basis. If you get in good with your Fitness Mgr then you should be ok.
Bally's pays on different levels. The least you can make at my gym is about $17/hour, but you can also make as much as $41/hour. There are no tricks to making that much...its not based on your certifications. It all just has to do with how much training you sell and how much you sell it for.
So, yes you can get hired without a certification

The way to do it is start in a club that gives you clients. Take $20hr or whatever they pay. Do this for a year or so, build up your clientel, then take them to a gym where you are an independent. Then you'll be getting twice that and have a good client base. I know many trainers who have done this and it works well.

There's alot of clubs out there that will have you sign confidentiality agreements to protect their clientel!

bast, if you do go bally, (i have good friends who have PT'd at bally) take on a client then after you gain their trust break it down like this: train them later at night when the managers have left and have them pay you directly. offer them a deal where they save off the regular price but you still make 100% of whatever it is and bally doesnt take a cut. works for both people and no one really knows you're not training on the clock. bally will also hire you without a cert, but they say you have to get one within X amount of time. its bullshit, i know people that have gone a year + without the cert and no one has brought it up. make friends with the juice bar girl and have her make you free shakes and also ones for your friends. steal the protein and supplements as well. run the gym like your own personal empire. bally is a piece of shit and deserves nothing less. good luck.

That got a good laugh. Run the gym like it's your own empire! Brilliant. Sitting there at 2am with a crown on rubbing yourself down with Udos Oil.

Haha I'm gonna lie and say I have a degree in exercise phys (I have a degree in computer information systems).

Only drawback to that is if they are forced to sign into long agreements with the gym you train out off. I knew a guy who trained at crunch in Boston. He was a level 7 trainer or some crap. Highest you could get. 70 bucks an hour!

Pt is needed only when the person getting trained does not have the ability to read, watch and practice.
Twenty years ago there was no such thing as PT's you simply went to the gym bust your ass and make friends/training partners with those who were more advanced than you. These days people think that by paying somebody ito escort you around the gym that you will become big.
Not hating the PT here ....if there are people willing to pay well then the PT should then collect
-keep it real-
