So that should make dex look far bigger than Ray. Maybe It's just that Ray did not lie about his weight. Ray was 212 lbs at his best and looks much bigger and more dense than Dexter. Just an observation.

Shape: Shawn - 1 (Shawn had better shape)
   Dexter - 0

Size: Shawn - 0
   Dexter - 1 (Dexter is bigger than Shawn)

Symmetry: Shawn - 1 (Shawn's symmetry slightly edges Dexter's)
   Dexter - 0

Condition: Shawn - 0
   Dexter - 1 (Dexter's condition is 2nd to none)

Overall mass: Shawn - 1
   Dexter - 1

*Both have great mass.

Score: 3 to 3

Shawn was more complete and balanced, but Dexter is more dense and has better muscle separation.

Dexter at this point would beat the Shawn of the late 90's.

Shawn's legs were diced. And his upper body was even more cut that Dex. So you can change that in your breakdown. Ill say It again. Dex does not look bigger than Ray. Even though he outweighs him.
Taking into account he is not lying about his weight. I loved It when the IRONMAN weighed its competitors. I'll bet Dex actually weighs 210 to 215 on stage.

Dex just doesn't have the structure to hang with Shawn Ray (high lats, waist widens towards the bottom) plus bad calves, poor leg separation, distended waistline. I think Shawn's 87 Nationals physique could probably beat Dex at present, but hey thats just my opinion.

Sorry but bodybuilding doesn't work this way. You can't just break it down by bodypart and then try to add up who has more better bodyparts. You have to look at the whole body, how it flows together. If you do this, you could say Art Atwood has a better chest, arms, back, legs, etc. than all these guys when you view those bodyparts by themselves, but he definately is not a better bodybuilder. In my opinion, Shawn is the most complete bodybuilder of all time. It would be Flex if he had better calves.

My strength is in my genetics.
When I started I started by winning at 17, note the attached picture.
I was driven by improving OVERALL.
Dexter on the other hand was not only short but skinny.
He had to over come a few more things and wasn't as genetically balanced I was to start.
That being said, he represents alot of where I left off and these comparison is flattering considering he is and has been a top 3 guy the last few years while comiong into his own.

Now Dex verse Shawn...For me its not comparison...Shawn is totally complete and Dex isn't....No calves what so ever...Although Ronnies aren't to great either and he is about to make it 10 in a row but whatever..

Not to bring drugs into the discussion but for the hell of it, Dex really has no business being anymore then a light heavy weight...He just doesn't have the frame...Although i know that drugs are a huge part for every pro, when i look at past pictures of DEx as a lightweight and look at him now, its total chemicals to me...Althought im sure Shawn used his share for its part of the game, his body doesn't yell massive hormones...And i would bet my house that if both these guys agreed to go totally clen for 2 years, Dex would look closer to his lightweight days and Shawn would be just slightly smaller and less shaper version of himself...

So after all this BS, Shawn wins easily and he also beats Kevin L

dex should have kept whatever was in his calves a few years back there non existant now,also ive seen dexters stomach get gradually worse over the years and that was a big disapointment as it used to be his strongpoint.i also agree with the other poster who said that the muscle on shawns frame looked much more like it was supposed to be there,IMO dex looks really unhealthy now

EDIT: i dont usually say anything about a bb looking unhealthy but for some reason dex strikes me as looking more unhealthy than a lot of others considering hes not exactly the heaviest guy out there,yet he is showing the same kind of signs that usually only the mass monsters display(just my oppinion ofc)

not really. Not even close. Everytime I saw him on tape, I was always let down when I saw him from the rear. He never had great conditioning from the rear. Dex has a better back, much thicker.

Now, I just re-watched shawn's 99O posing routine. WOW. I reverse my vote, Ray all the way. If Shawn Ray was 5'10 or 5'11 and be 245lbs with his same shape and conditioning he would have won 10 Sandows. Out of all the competitors at the 99O he easily had the best shape and structure (relative to his height). Ronnie's simply had by far, the best conditioning (esp. from the rear) and he had the best back , combined with size.

And since then, I have been huge fan of Shawn and still I am.
Especialy 1994 his back is like having many snakes like unbelivably great.

Sorry, but Dexter wins every shot from the rear. His back is much thicker and more developed. The rear lat spread was one of Shawn's worst poses.

I disagree. Shawn easily wins in the lower body department and many others. To me Shawn has a much more classic shape.

try watching the Arnold Classic 2005.. Compare Lee Priest and Dexter.. Lee was breathing through his stomach (clearly it showed how difficult to pose on stage with constant flexing) but Dex seemed to be not breathing at all even though when he gave his winning speech, you know he's exhausted

I think Shawn has him in the thigh deparment and calves, and Dex has high lats from the front that make it look weird in the front double bi....but we gotta remember that conditioning has alot to do with winning nowadays, and no won can get peeled with no skin like the blade!!!!!!!! In alot of the pics of shawn u see how "soft he looks"....Me i give it to the blade for more size and better conditioning

am i the only one that thinks dexters abs are horrible?hes got just as much distention as anyone else.look at his pictures over the years and see how the abs started seperating in the middle over those years.i remember when i first started to notice it about 3 years ago and i was thinking" c'mon dex give it up withthat shit" but it gradually got worse and worse.how pwoplwe think hes got some of the best in the business is beyond me

It did, but it's true. Cormier, Flex, Ronnie and Shawn are the ultimate quadrilogy of awesome muscle fullness. Guys today are so dry and hard they don't look as full and shapely as the 90s guys.

In Dexter's side tri his no chest is clearly visible.
