Lee has already "placed well" at IFBB events and has contracts. Those contracts will not go away because he's not competing in the IFBB. Vyotech doesn't seem to mind that Shawn hasn't stepped on an IFBB stage in years.
If we were talking about some rookie, your argument might hold water. But Lee's been around a long time, and already has his fan base and fame.
You're making the same mistake as others too close to the IFBB do... you think that just because competing in the IFBB was used as the initial vehicle to gain notoriety, continued notoriety is somehow dependant on continued IFBB stage competition.

I agree with Lee about bodybuilders. To your face they agree with you and speak their minds. Behind your back they kiss butt to contest promoters, etc. It is pathetic. However, some have learned that you have to not cause trouble or speak out if you want to win top shows.
I respect anyone who speaks out and tells the truth. The IFBB lost the plot a long time ago. Bodybuilders, as a group, have been used and abused for decades and nothing has changed. They never will stick together except to be meek.

Do you think it's your financial independence that makes you more able to speak out against the IFBB or the fact that you're not a US-only-based bodybuilder? In other words, being from Australia you've got other BB options and a diff. view on the BB world than a US BB who can't as easily compete abroad or see what the BB world is like outside the US?

Do you think it's your financial independence that makes you more able to speak out against the IFBB or the fact that you're not a US-only-based bodybuilder? In other words, being from Australia you've got other BB options and a diff. view on the BB world than a US BB who can't as easily compete abroad or see what the BB world is like outside the US?

You both want to see change in the bodybuilding world, you're just in different camps. Shawn is working within the system, and I think that when the Shawn Ray Colorado Pro went off without a hitch Shawn had put his money where his mouth is. Whether you like him or not, whether or not you agree with him, Shawn wants to improve the lot of the average bodybuilder. Lee works outside the system. He challenges the status quo and shakes things up. And again, you may or may not agree with him, but he's doing what he thinks is right. I think both ways are needed. Look at any kind of successful movement, particularly in politics. You need to improve the system and challenge it at the same time.
As someone who is just getting into competing at the amateur level, when I look at the pro's I see that there are problems. And most of these problems are ones that have been around as long as there's been bodybuilding. I remember that when I first read Pumping Iron, one of the things that struck me was that a lot of things hadn't changed in bodybuilding; the athletes are still being taken advantage of by promoters; steroids are still the elephant in the middle of the room; the judging is still biased or influenced entirely too much by things other than the package an athlete brings to the stage.
You both want these things changed. And both your methods of going about it are valid. Either or both of you may fail, but you're guaranteed failure if you never try. The two of you are some of the best bodybuilders that have ever walked the planet, so why not just respect each other for your accomplishments, respect each other for trying to make the sport that let you get where you are today better, and respect each others right to be wrong (at least in each others' eyes).
And yes, I know that both of you are just "calling it as it is" and are all about "no bullshit". Gotcha. We're all human, everyone has their vices and flaws. Just because you're both pro bodybuilders, doesn't mean you're going ot be without fault or hypocrasy. Making a big deal out of it just brings you one step closer to being on the same level as Captain Gyno here:

Oh ok well do you think for a minute that Bob and Shawn have the athletes in mind when it comes time for making changes or are you forgetting who is paying Shawn and Bob ;) Now if that is not a conflict of interest i really don't know what is :o These guys can't even think straight without the IFBBs approval of course :-X How many times do we have to sit here and listen to Bob and Shawn pat themselves on the back and tell us all how great of a job they are doing yet i really don't see it. We all know Bobs Athletes rep posistion is severaly compromised as Athletes rep due to his wallet and income, now i like Bob on a personal level but on this matter Bob should have stood down from this posistion ages ago once the posisition became compromised , it was the only honurabel thing to do , but since he did not the posisition has become a public farce, especialy with alot of the comments he has made on this board whilst holding this posisiton ( all maters pertaining to this posisiton I would have thought would have been soley the domain of those directly involved). It is because of this the position has lost all respect and ablity to have meaning and once bob finaly does see integrity with this issue and steps down , you will be lucky to find any one to replace him as it is now just seen as a waist of time !!
As for Shawn , his activist days when he was all for the betterment of the sport for the athletes are long gone as he to is now compromised by his wallet , this is one of the main reasons shawn of late has taken to bagging his pairs in the sport !!

And Bob as I have said before (and in no disrespect) I beleive the posisiton should be handled under the guise of a Agent whom has no ties at all to the industrie other than that of his clients , thus creating a totaly nuetral bargining platform to work from, if this said agent had say 30 of the top athletes under his charge and concern , then I would guarntee there would be some movement in the way these guys are treated and rewarded for there ablity to fund this industrie !!!

Wasn't it Bob who has been talking about a Bodybuilders Union for years now?
And as athletes rep, Bob has had a number of athlete meetings where he tried to get a large enough number of athletes to actually get a majority and have a real shot at making some changes, but hardly anyone ever shows up.And I seem to recall that Bob was one fo the guys who organized the '02 ASC athletes meeting, and from there lobbied for some changes and succeeded in getting the judges table closer to the stage, prize money for all Olympia competitors, some changes to the judging standards, and the athletes' rep position created.

Bob its not so much what not you are doing , it is more a case of your ablity to garnish support due to your outside intrests, it is no secret where your loyalitys lie, and so be it thats where you earn your income , but because of this no athlete is or will make a call to you to aid in a dispute him or her may have with a show or promoter as you dont have the ablity to take a neutral stance on the matter and to go into bat for the athlete come high or low water !!!
Hence why you dont and have not got alot of support since your taking on the posisiton !!

Bob, this is not a criticism just an observation/question. Is there any way in your position that you can help with the enforcement of the new rules about aesthetics? The distended bellies need to go so that we can have bodybuilding be more mainstream which would bring more money into bodybuilding, IMO. People like freaks but not pregnant assholes with bodyparts shot up with oil and out of proportion physiques. I mean every BBer is a freak considering that he is bigger than the average Joe, but we don't want to feel like we are at Alien movie waiting for the thing to pop out of people's stomachs.
The IFBB made referance to this problem 2 years ago and aparently (according to press releases)they were going to avidly mark down for this problem and that of obvious synthol use , but to date we have not seen any evidance of this , by their own means Jay Cutler should have been marked down at last years Olympia but do you think it happened ??

Maybe you didn't get the memo...I DON'T JUDGE.
If any of you have a problem with the decision...take it up with the judges.
I do, however, have a HUGE problem with the judging system...it sucks and needs to be changed.
I'll be challenging it ( along with other proposals)in the upcoming meeting held at the Olympia.
What proposals will you be bringing up? If you don't want to go into details, how about a preview or summary?

For Synthol use? I mean, I thought of the top six Jay had one of the best waistlines, so I'm assuming you're saying he used Synthol. And it can be argued that at the Europa they took that mandate pretty seriously, but definitely no sign of following it for the big shows so far.

Let this years 06 Olympia determine if the mandate is actually being enforced. When it comes down to it any bodybuilding competition is a competition to see who is the biggest and most conditioned athlete. The Olympia is the biggest in the sport, and with those big names comes money and polotics. No matter who the athlete, they should be punished for flaws on their physique. The pros all know the criteria this year, so there is no room to bitch. Let this be the year to really see how fair the IFBB judging is. Big full muscles, glutes, no gut= good score. Lets see what happens.....

Nah not synthol cant comment on what I dont know, but I was in the front row at the pre judging, and jays belly was very extended , so much so that all the guys in the front row made comment on it !!!

How the f**k do you figure? They break even. No loss. If you don't like his posts, why read them?
that's not the point - if whomever breaks even. its the principle of the matter. besides, who really knows if lee even reinburses the promoters.
lee has done this on several occassions.
