Title: Weight Classes Should Be Introduced
Post by: Hendrix on September 13, 2006, 11:54:56 PM
How does a judge come to the conclusion of whos the better example of a physique.Example Lee Preist 5,4 200 pounds is called out against Toney Freeman 6,2 280 pounds.WTF how does a judge fairly compare them, its like oranges and apples.
3 weight classes ,200 pounds,240 pounds,241 pounds and over.Compare Dave Henry,Lee Preist in the 200 pound catergory,Compare Dexter Jackson to Darrem Charles in the 240 pound catergory and then let the games begin with the monsters Ronster against Jay Cutler in the 240 plus limit and have an overall winner with 2nd and 3rd placings going in order of the lighter guys.I have just smoked a joint so i hope my post is coherent but something has to be done i admit there should be one overall winner with the other guys in the weight classes rewarded.

smoking joints will raise your metabolism and if you can avoid the munchies it will put you that much closer to 0.0% BF.  I wonder if Flex smoked back in '93?

I think the classes should be seperated by BF comp.  Let guys choose how ripped they want to get.  Flex probably would have been the only dude in the 0.0 class back in 93.

that's a good idea.  might eliminate folks lying about their height too.

I'd slouch to get into a smaller height class. And claim osteoporosis and bowed-leggedness.

bowed leggedness may throw off caliper measurements.  Good thing Flex had 0.0 degrees of lateral inflexion at his knee joint or else we might have to second guess any caliper measurements that were taken of him.  Even ones from all the way back in 93.

What would happen if you compared Darrem Charles to Jay Cutler same height but 40 pounds difference. ???

You wouldn't be able to tell that neither was at 0.0% BF, to realize that you'd need at least one other individual to compare them too.  The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Flex Wheeler in the shape he was in before the O way back in 93.

This is very important to promote the sport or industry

Well the fact is anyone can be compared to that, but will never get the respect that is due...Judges will always reward a taller bodybuilder; history has proven it....

I think the PDI made a mistake by not doing this...I believe it would have attracked alot more BBuilders...And if it failed, so what?  And if the IFBB followed, the blue blazers would have to realise that they are followers....Not something that these ego's could handle...

Weight classes should be introduced soley based on the paying customer(the fan)....They came in all shapes and sizes....Standing Lee Preist next to Ronnie Coleman will always be stupid....The fans see this...

I am glad you see it on a realistic basis.....A perfect 280lb. bodybuilder standing next to and evenly matched 210lb. bodybuilder; the 280lb. bodybuilder will always win because they are matched side by side and any man standing next to a man taller than himself with the same muscle mass will always win...

Been there, done that!!! That won't satisfy the bodybuilders (or the fans), either. Remember that part of the whole controversy surronding the 1980 Mr. Olympia was Arnold Schwarzenegger's initial refusal to join his fellow IFBB pros in demanding that the two weight-class format (over 200 lbs. and under 200 lbs.) be abolished.

The interesting thing about that, according to FLEX, was that in the six years that weight class system was in place, only twice did the over 200-lb class winner take the overall title: 1974 and 1975, both times Schwarzenegger defeated Columbu for the overall title.

The other four times, Columbu beat 200+lb. class winner, Ken Waller. And, of course, Frank Zane picked up three Mr. Olympia overall titles as the expense of 200+lb. class winners, Robby Robinson ('77 and '78) and Mike Mentzer ('79).
