JODECI, best r & b of the nineties! 8)
-
Thanks for that Beef.
Now talking of the best r+b in the 90s,you`ve got to have Blackstreet in there,or anything that Teddy Riley was involved in.

Jodeci, Blackstreet, H-Town, Ruff Endz, Shai....too bad they don't make music like that anymore. Except for a few, todays R&B and hip hop is crap.
-
How could i forget Shai, and the acapella version of If i ever fall in love again.
Don`t forget Babyface and The Day.
-
they do and i pm'd parker to thank him
Your welcome, man JODECI, best r & b of the nineties! 8)
I forgot Jodeci, you know what really made them so good? It was Devante Swing's production. He is the one responsible for puctiona 16 year of the time, on the map. His name was Usher. I can't rememeber the name, but I think it was, "Can we get Sexual". Usher at 16 was better than Chris Brown now.Now talking of the best r+b in the 90s,you`ve got to have Blackstreet in there,or anything that Teddy Riley was involved in.
Add the group Today, one of Teddy Riley's groups. Plus when the lead singer, Big Bub, went solo, I think Teddy produced him as well. Big Bub was known as "baby Luther", because he had that deep velvety voice.
Shai was good and so was Potrait. Thing is the R&B groups today, if any are more show, trying to be more gansta, more in line with Hip-Hop, because being polished is seen as being "soft". But who you put on for your females. Marvin Gaye, Teddy P., R. Kelly, Prince, all far from being "soft".
-
One of my favourite albums from the 90s is by a group called Men of Vizion, the album was called Personal. This is bringing back some great memories of a time when i used to buy an album every week,Men at Large,Silk,hi five, and one album that i constantly played was by After 7.Kevon Edmonds sure could sing.

No doubt. Big Bub did a few solo joints that was knockin', like ' Telling Me Stories'. I liked him better when he was with the group TODAY. "You Just Stood Me UP' and 'Him or Me' was hot! I still bump that.
Devante swing was the man. Him and Timbaland produced a LOT of hits for Tu-Pac and Missy Elliot.K-Ci hailey got a solo effort coming out October #3rd. I heard a few tracks from it and it sounds good.

That brother that sang lead for INTRO ('Love Thang' and 'Ribbon In The Sky')) died recently from complications from AIDS. Dude could sing his ass off! Al B.Sure! has a album coming out on the same label as K-Ci. Al B. was one of the pioneers that kicked off new jack swing. 8)

Yeah.... Mokensteff, Y n Vee, Total, Mary J. Blige (early stuff), Envogue. Shit was off the hook in the nineties!
Dude that sang lead for SOLO was the legendary Sam Cookes nephew. :o In the beginning of ' Heaven he did a little tribute to his uncle by singing a snippet from Sam's 60's hit ' Cupid'.

lol! Love the music! 8)

does anyone remember the song 'You Will Know' by Black Men United? it was on the Jason's Lyric soundtrack and it featured practically every major black R&B star from the time. they even performed it at the American Music Awards and there were like 35 dudes on stage.
and on another note, we can't forget Mint Condition in this whole conversation.
-
I`m lovin this more than talking about bodybuilding.
What got me into this music was when i came over to the US in 1990 and one day on the radio i heard Bel Biv Devoe singing Poison, and i loved it.When i got back to the UK i asked for a record called poison and they gave me the rock group called Poison. After BBV,you just had to listen to Johnny Gill,Ralph Tresvant, then onto BoyzIIMen.

Oh my goodness! ' Breaking My Heart and ' Pretty Brown Eye's' was definitely two of the best songs from the new jack/ r&b era. Good stuff. 'You will know' was a good one.. i always think about Aaron Hall from Guy and his part of the song when i think of it.
-
Now who`s man enough to admit that they shed a tear watching Aaron Halls video to "Missin you".I sure did.

what about Intro, Al B Sure, and AZ Yet? i remember AZ Yet was hyped up as the new Boyz II Men, but fizzled after one album.
Intro's "Come Inside", the long version is X-rated as hell. Az Yet was good, Can't beleive the lead singer was once part of Boyz II Men. He had one singel out called "Fifteen Minutes".
Thanks New York for putting me down on KC's new album
WHEN will Maxwell's new album come out? Dude is like the modern day Marvin Gaye (and he worked with Leon Ware who wrote for Marvin)
Anybody ever listen to Leon Ware's stuff, it is magic, especially the song, "Can I Touch You There". pure panty-melting shit, right there.
I going to go listen to "Fortunate", done by Maxwell, written by R.Kelly....
-
Freak me baby.
-

Here you go,have a good cry.You know you want to.

No doubt bro. K-Ci's album is'nt being handled right, most people don't even know its coming out...he's with headstart music, damn they suck. You can preview the album on myspace.com
I heard Maxwell's album is finished but no execs are touching the new tracks for one reason or another. Personally,i would like to hear Terrence Trent D'arby make a return to the scene.
-

Damn! While driving home from the gym, that stupid ass song ' Chicken Noodle Soup' was playing on the radio....and it's the most requested song! >:( I hurried up and popped in my Dave Hollister cd.
-
yeah...that early 90s was the shit...some of that early 90s hip hop also.
they had some gret vids.
classic vid right here....... ;D
-
they dont make love songs like they use to
-
2 Live Crew was definitely ahead of their time, cats is still copying their shit. But i was listening to Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions,LL, TLA Rock, DJ Chuck Chillout,MC Shan,Mantronix,NWA. That's the golden age of hip hop.
-
now they have songs like "I wanna f**k your sister"-TQ
Never heard that one. Sounds stupid.
-
no doubt...noone made booty shakin music like uncle luke... ;D
-
I heard Maxwell's album is finished but no execs are touching the new tracks for one reason or another.
Rumor was of overtly gay lyrics, I doubt that. Supposedly it was suppose to come out in April, then it was said in June... They did the same thing for his first album. It was suppose to come out in 1994, but they pushed it to 1996...said the public wasn't ready for the dude.
Mokensteff, eww. They had that "dumb bitch music". Like the song "He's Mine", where they say, "...you may have had him one, but he's mine all the time" WTF.
Mint Condition's best song is " Pretty Brown Eyes", hands down. The teardrop remix is the shit.
Remember Christopher Williams, I didn't know that man had so many albums, he just was never promoted as much. And Aaron Hall has three albums. JoJo, R. Kelly and Dru Hill owe alot to Aaron Hall, he set the mode for that type of singing.

I liked some of Mokensteff's efforts, such as 'He's Mine', 'Come Closer' and 'Sex in the Rain'. If those girls had the opportunity to work with Devante Swing or anyone from the Bassment they would have lit shit up.
I agree that Aaron Hall and Guy kicked off the production style and that soulful vocal tone for nineties r&b.Athough, i think Dru Hill owe's more to Jodeci than Guy in terms of singing and their success. Most of the great groups from the ninetie's would probably agree with the fact that it was Guy along with Teddy Riley's production, that brought new jack to the front. 8)
Christopher Williams music was tight. A great vocalist who could have went really far but i think his addiction's inhibited some of his success as an artist. Still great though, dude's are still biting his style such as Jaheim and Tank....who happen's to be imitating Teddy. What about Keith Sweat? Teddy produced his first album and that shit was nice.
-
christopher accused wesley snipes of hitting halle berry so hard the bitch lost her hearing
Yep, but Halle neither confirms or denies it. I think Halle is truly a A-class insecure dummy, fine she is, but dumb nonetheless.
I agree that Aaron Hall and Guy kicked off the production style and that soulful vocal tone for nineties r&b.
Jaheim ...who happen's to be imitating Teddy. What about Keith Sweat? Teddy produced his first album and that shit was nice.
Remember when Aaron Hall had a feud with R. Kelly, when "R" first came out? And then when Aaron Hall shaved his head, then R. Kelly did the same. Thing is, R. could write his ass off.
I Like Jaheim, and I agree he sounds like Teddy P. On Jaheim's first album, there was a good slow song, I fforget the nmae and he sounded a little like Luther, and at the end of the song he says that little line from Teddy's "Close the Door", the line is , "...I'm lying here, waiting my dear, for you to come..."
I think Jaheim need to stop cussing so much, it ruins his songs, his first and second albums would have been better if there wasn't so much cussing. But what do you expect from someone who just got out of prison :-[.
Keith Sweat first album is a classic, no doubt. HIs other best effort was the song he did with Gerald Levert, "Just one of them Thangs", off the Mississippi Masala" soundtrack. And "Merry-Go-Round". He was also good in the group LSG.
Does anybody know early 90's group that sang "Too Hype"? That was the joint.
-
Too Hype, i remember that i just can't remember who sung it."Put on my best, can't belive that she said yes", that was my joint.
One of my favorite R.Kelly videos.
-
Brings back memories :'(
-
Does anybody know early 90's group that sang "Too Hype"? That was the joint.
yea, the song was called "II Hype" by Entouch. it came out in '89 if i recall correctly. i remember i used to say the word "hype" all the time in grammar school. and then one day i said it, and some kid said that "hype" was out and "phat" was in. so i started saying "phat". end scene.
here's the video
