I just blew away my personal best!!!!
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:17:47 PM »
I don't deadlift much but do like to throw it in every once in awhile. Now before I get chastised for the lift. I don't pull from the floor. I like to p ull from the rack from below my knees. Now normally I stop at 500lbs and don't touch anything else. Beyond that has always been some mental thing about it being untouchable. BUT after pulling 500 easily for 5 reps. I decided to throw two more plates and give it a go. 585 with 3 easy pulls. I have learned to really drive up with my legs and not use all of my back. Finished them clean with a reset each time. At this point, I figured what the hell and decided to go for broke. 7 plates a side for a single. I felt in the zone!!! Drove it home hard and got it for an single. NEVER tried it again but at that moment I felt like a god. I will discredit myself though. I did it in the rack not off the floor, strapped in and with a belt. Does that bother me any? NOPE! Felt good to pick that kind of weight up. I've been working with a kid I'm training for 3a state powerlifting on my DL if I get his bench up and it looks like form and technique is where it's at. Can I do it again? Maybe...will I try again soon? After my back stops talking to me.  I just wanted to share my boner with everyone! ENJOY!

Doesn't everyone?  ??? ;D
You are lying, but all the same good PR.  ::)
What's hard to believe about it? Most of my work was already done for me by the rack. The bar was already a foot off the floor. I really just had to stand up with it. I'm paying for it today though. My entire back is sore as hell and my wrists look as if I tried to cut them off with the straps. Like I'd been cuffed after a bad run in with the law.  :-\

You're right. I just posted this to see what kind of reaction I can get out of you guys.  ;D

On a serious note, how do you guys develop the grip strength to not need straps? Without them I can only pick up 450 and that's for just 4 reps before my fingers slip out. Just keep lifting without them? I try to only use them when I can no longer hold onto the bar during the lifts but it's just not adapting quickly enough.  ???

I'm surprised that the SquadFather was not the first to jump in and call that workout BS.  Thank God he has finally arrived with his insightful and famous "BS" analysis.

Anyway, congrats to TWT (if he's serious). People tend to overlook the advantage of doing partial DL's (or most any other partial exercise) for gaining size and power. And at a fairly rapid rate, at that. Sometimes we really do not understand how powerful we really are until put to a maxium test. Getting away from the same old standard way of working out can turbo charge a lot of guy's workout goals.

Might try chalk for DL'ing. The last choice would be rosin/pine tar based stickum. Could tend to tear the palms of some guy's if not used the right way. Set the pins just high enough where the bar is raised a couple of inches. Have a weight about 50lbs more above the weight where you would normally lose or slip a grip. And just hold the bar for 20-30 seconds, or so. Can also use a false grip (thumbs over the bar for extra finger strength). Do these after a regular DL workout. Good luck.

I thought about chalk because my hands get awefully sweaty. Rack deads, just like rack shrugs, can help you go up in weight ridiculously fast. Could I pick it up again though? LOL honestly I don't think so. I was pretty pumped and hyped up about the 600pull that I think i was just running on excitment for the 660. Thanks for the gripping advice! I had the fact that I have to use straps but they do help in developing my back and traps throughout all this.
