Prince William - the future king - is required to undergo training in all the major military areas to aid in his decision making when he later becomes king.

I think this is a great idea - and if every presidential candidate was required to have served, they might be less likely to send men to die in the sand without ever stepping in that sand themselves.

Good point. Not to be all ghey and quote my mom, but she always says if the world was run by mothers who had their 18 yr old sons in the military - there would be no more wars.

I think the whole idea of having a monarchy is ridiculous.

Someone being born into a position as a ruler?

WTF?

Also, I think requirements for presidental candidates seems like a VERY bad idea. It's definitely not democratic.

Leave it up to the people to vote for whoever they believe is the most competent, instead of restricting who can be eligible.

Question for you 240 or Bust: What kind of other requirements other than having served do you think a presidential candidate should fullfill?

I don't know.  Of course, being 35 and a US citizen are always good.  I think the voters decide most required traits.  However, the system is set up and run by foks who haven't served, and therefore have zero motivation to make it a requirement.

maybe it should be required - in the light of recent warmongering - that one person on the prez/vp ticket have 4 years of service.

What is to say that people without 4 years of service would NOT make good presidents?

How many years did F D Roosevelt serve?

FDR allowed Pearl Harbor to happen so we could enter the war.
