The original Nautilus leg machine had it where a person laid down flat on their back (strap around the waist for good reason...the body would tend to lift off the long bench otherwise)). The crook of the knee was placed on a leverage device (padded) and the subject straighten out the legs all the way out. I used one in my late teens. That triple cam leverage device could be a killer on any Nautilus machine. Can give a very effected leg workout, along with the hip and lower back. And the feet never touch the floor or anything else.
Rehab centers have equipment like that. Some where a person stands, one leg at a time, with the same princple. The leverage focus (weight force) is behind the knee. When the knee or foot/ankle is injured or healing, but exercise is needed for help in rehab, than the design is to work around the injury. Sport trainers and sport doctors know about these machines. In fact, there are many resistence muscle building machines that the general public knows nothing about. Nautilus had made quite a few of these.
Bluto might try leg presses while on his tip toes. Some of the old timers use to do squats on the tip toes. A little balance is needed at first but after that it can be a rewarding thigh and calf exercise. And if your an atheletic, than so much more the better. Or even with the heels placed on a 2X4, if that does not bother the bottom of the foot too much. You don't really have to flex the feet when doing leg extensions, if the padding bar is placed higher up on the ankle.. Walking would probably be the last thing Bluto would want to do at this time. Wonder if Bluto has a common Planters wart on the sole of his foot. Good Luck.
