y'all do Goodmornings?
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:05:13 AM »
I did them today (after 8 sets of squats)

I did 4 sets of Goodmornings. My lower back felt very tight so I didn't go all the way down. I only went up to 135. I used to go way heavier. But with the tightness in my lower back; I was very cautious. I tried to stay on my heels. But even with lightweights and a partial range of motion, I felt my hamstrings getting activated.

If anything; they are a nice break from Deadlifts while still using free weights.

I have a long torso. Surprisingly, I find goodmornings very easy and enjoyable to do. I do them with a barbell held across the back of my shoulders. I also enjoy toe touching with hands flat to the floor. My hams get a good stretch from this. Did them last night 4 sets of 18 reps following squats and leg extensions. My legs feel pleasantly tight today.

Yes, usually before squats.

Interesting.

Learned them in the mid 1980's.  Was squating 700+ at the time. I never thought they had a good risk/return ratio.

Reverse hypers. Block work. High bar squats.  They are all better choices IMO.

Good mornings seemed to help us when things went wrong during a big squat and once it goes wrong you normally  miss the lift.

I love them. Standing to different depths. Seated. Never felt they were particularly bad on
the lower back and I went very heavy. I did pull a hamstring once doing them seated. I did 440 to parallel which actually feels below when under the bar.
Up to 600 for short range. I got away from them but have to start again. One year I did gm's 3 days per week as I couldn train much else real hard.

Good mornings tend to = painful mornings for your lower back

It's only because your lower back is weak as fuck. Seriously, good mornings, not shit heavy like someone like me would do them, but good weights regularly could cure many of these back problems. Some tweak their backs real easy, for example doing rows and it's because the lower back is simply weak.
