Excerpt:

sjr:
You've been on top of the heavy metal scene, you've conquered hardcore, and now MMA?

pa:
Let me put it to you like this...as long as I can remember...I've been the undisputed KING of heavy metal. When I was...with Pantera...WE CHANGED THE FACE of heavy music. I'll make no bones about it. We never sold out...went...what...fuck ing new metal? That's bullshit man.
Music is what I do...FIRST and foremost. Fucking...Circus Magazine...the readers...the FANS...not the music industry ELECTED me as the best frontman in HEAVY MUSIC. Now to get down to brass tacks. I've conquered everything in my path and I must admit...it feels pretty damn good.
I've gone through fucking surgeries on my back. I've fucking DIED twice. I've fucking gone from a heroin addict to a sober person...I'm in the best shape of my life. I say can say this to you EMPHATICALLY.

sjr:mma?

pa:I've been a follower, so to speak, of...the SPORT...of boxing. ok. For a long time. I can...name boxers you've never HEARD of...ok. Felix Trinidad is my favorite athlete...in the WORLD. I remember ROUNDS of fights. I can replay it back to you in my mind. I'll be honest with you...
I'm not impressed with the standup in so-called mixed martial arts...I've been a fighter all my life. I've fucking DIED. I reigned over heavy music and now I want to make a MARK in so-called mixed martial arts...representing boxing.

sjr:what sort of training are you doing to prepare for this?

pa:I do HUNDREDS...no...THOUSAND S...of situps and pushups. I do THOUSANDS...of repetitions with light weight. I do literally...HUNDREDS of curls. I do bag work...hitting the gloves...HOURS...I'm eating clean. I drink Noni juice and take HUNDREDS of vitamins man. I take a sledgehammer and I fucking smash...CINDERBLOCKS to release the...anger. I can honestly tell you...I'm in the best shape of my life.
I'm hooking up with the MAN that fucking...trained some of the best fighters...you've never heard of. I'm getting used to the gloves...

Stay tuned for part II

He could probably be a handful for Chuck at this point. The dude is like 6'1 - 6'2' 210 ish I'm guessing.
He would take Chuck in a standup war for sure.

I wish Phil would just quit with the interviews and stick to singing.  The first Down record is amazing.

I agree the first down record is bad ass, Phil had a pretty serious back surgery not too long ago, I really hope he is joking.  He needs to get back to putting down some of those sick ass tracks that he's known for, Down just came by my neck of the woods two days ago, I didn't get to catch them though.  In any case, Ive been to almost fifty metal concerts and Pantera was hands down the heaviest band ive ever seen live, and they had the sickest mosh pits ive ever seen, they were true showman, no matter how smashed they got.

down got a new album out. they're great live and you're able to catch them playing smaller shows than pantera ever did which is a plus.
