Would love to have a salt water tank one day. I imagine they require alot of upkeep.

It depends on what you have in the tank.  My grouper tank requires very little maintenance.  The grouper basically eats everything in the tank, I change the water, we both watch TV.

Reef tanks can be extremely labor intensive depending on your setup.  My large anenome died not too long ago.  I missed it for the first few hours it was dead.  That basically set off a chain reaction until the entire aquarium shit the bed.  It looked like a nuclear holicost and smelled like stinky rhino ass for a few days.  I lost my breeding pair of maroon clowns, my coral beauty, about half my leather corals, most of my mushroom polyps, and a few other things.  I've got the tank back stable and am rebuilding things, but the death of that one animal was pretty bad for the tank.

A reef tank is what i'd like, I guess you need to have it professionally maintained.

We looked into reef tanks and did alot of research before we decided against it.  VERY labor intensive.

Things like what Vet mentioned can be big problems....but just feeding the fish can be a problem.  If you get a large variety of fish, some like live food, some like frozen food, some like to be fed by hand like 3 times a day, others in the morning, others in the middle of the night...We thought about wtf we would do when we travelled anywhere and concluded that it would be damn near impossible to have someone come over and take care of the tank while we were gone.

rip you should start with a nano tank, get a pair of clown, live rock and live sand, pretty easy to keep!

small, easy to take care of, doesn't cost a lot of money and pretty nice, that way you'll know if you really like it or not.
