Stop with the sour grapes. If small market teams want to compete with big market teams tell them to spend there money more wisely. Or not to start a major league team if they don't have the market for it. Funny part is the guys who had the biggest part in this sweep where home grown young players.

The sox still spend far less then the yankees. The yankees have not won shit since 2000. There are plenty of teams Angels , Cubs, Mets  etc etc that spend the big bucks. If you don't have enough money to compete you or cannot fill your park, you should not whine because others can.

it isn't sour grapes, it's the facts.  If these small market teams had the resources to build a winning team all of them would fill their ball park.  Nobody continuously pays to see a loser, regardless the market size.  All of those teams you listed have a chance each year and have at the very least gotten close to the world series.  They have an extreme advantage over small market teams.  Notice how they were basically the only ones bidding on Dice K?  Do you really think that's fair?  If football was run the same way as baseball the colts would not have won the super bowl last year.  The steelers wouldn't have won in 2005.  Baseball is an absolute disgrace.

Did you even watch the world series? The sox home grown players played a giant part in winning in the playoffs / world series.

What does removing 4 of the sox best players and asking if they would make the playoffs after that have to do with the world series? Through the playoffs the sox farm system players played just as large a role as the "stars".

I agree those guys played big roles in the sox success. But guys like John Lester, Dustin Padrioa, Jacoby Ellsbury,Manny Delcarmen and Paplebon played a huge role also. My point was the sox have a ton of there home grown players about to infuse with those stars. They built themselves into a big market though great scouting , coaching and a loyal fan base. That is not there fault.

No one just decided one day the sox where going to be a great team.

Yes drafting and scouting helps but all of the big market teams have signed big time free agents.  Boston's two world series mvp's came from other teams.  Wihtout schilling they would not have won in 2004.  Beckett was huge against cleveland and in game 1. Like i said only a few teams had a chance to even talk to Dice K. The small market teams can't afford them or can't sign their own big time players they drafted.  The marlins can take more pride in their championship 4 years ago than anybody.  They built their team but than had to lose them all because they couldn't pay them.   Do you think A Rod has a chance of going to Boston or Kansas City?  It's a complete joke that only a few teams can afford to pay him.  There is no even playing field and people want to blame steroids for that, if anything is juiced it's the big market teams payrolls

Yes steelers and colts are good at drafting but they wouldn't have been able to afford their players without a salary cap.  How much do you think jerry jones, dan snyder, or any of the new york teams would've paid peyton manning before he signed his deal with the colts?  He would've gotten A Rod type money.  The steelers were competitive before the salary cap but every year they were losing big time free agents to teams that gave them more money.  I don't think Indy has a bigger popualtion than all of new england.

What I'm saying is baseball needs a salary cap.  Heck detroit didn't make it to the world series until they incresaed their payroll by 40 million.

You said they would not have the money to pay there players even though they draft exceptionally well, and would constantly put a winner on the field? The exact opposite would happen. You cant assume teams like the skins and the cowboys would have cash and no one else would if there was no cap still. The skins and the boys built themselves into big market teams when they won all the time years ago. Thats how they got there fan base. The NFL is far more draft based and there is no farm system. How would Jerry Jones or the Skins get a shot at Manning if they did not draft him out of college? If the colts draft Manning and they are winning they have the money to sign him. Hence them building there team into a "big market" contender.

Wanocki, go look at the Rockies payroll. Helton gets 16M and the next guy gets like 6M. The whole team is 60M.

Now, look at the fine points. Jeff Francis makes 380K, Tulowitski makes 700K, Matt Holiday like 5M. After this showing, Francis will command 10M a year, Tulo will make 10M a year and Holiday will be a 13-15M a year player. So will the Rockies sign these players? They'll have to, and a few more which will bring the payroll over 100M.

Realistically, the Rockies are already a 100M payroll team. Otherwise, you'll never see them in the playoffs again. So either they spend the money, or they don't come back.

As an A's fan, its extremely frustrating because how are we supposed to compete?  Seriously, without a salary cap there's just no way, IN THEORY.  The reality is that even with no money the a's and billy beane are competitive every year (cept this year when we were decimated by injuries) and in the thick of things.  if there were a salary cap the a's would win every year, or close to it because billy beane is by far the smartest man in baseball and theo epstein and brian cashman could only dream of having that eye for talent.  But all the eye for talent in the world isn't going to do anything if you can't spend the money other teams are.  The PROBLEM though is that baseball won't ever do anything to keep the red sox and yankees from being competitive because they bring in the best ratings and its all ESPN wants to talk about.  Its not sour grapes, its just the reality of baseball.  The Red Sox had to become the Yankees to win it all, its 100% true and if you try and deny i you're only lying to yourself.  Tell me what would happen if you gave billy beane 160 million to work with.

So making it an equal playing field would be a punishment?   yeah they needed those guys to win the world series but i can assure you they wouldn't have won without the high paid free agents.

Indianapolis is considered a small market and if they weren't they wouldn't have been considered a few years ago as a possible team moving to los angeles and they would have a baseball team and maybe a hockey team, they don't because they don't have the market to support all of the major sports.  The skins and cowboys have richer owners and I know the skins are the most valuable franchise.  The Cowboys or skins would've given manning money that the colts wouldn't be able to match but the nfl is smart enough to have a salary cap that way EVERY TEAM that starts the season knows that they have the chance.  If the skins would give antwann randle el 30 million what do you think they woud've given somebody like marvin harrison if there was no cap? 

Accept the fact that your team has a MAJOR advantage over many other teams.  To think otherwise means you are in serious denial

Tha is true if you watch espn you would think they are the only two teams that play baseball.  Those talk shows report on every minor thing they do. They only bring the best ratings because both teams are all star teams and most people are dumb enough to believe what espn sells which is the sox and yankees are all that matter in baseball.   The Steelers/Seahawks Super Bowl was the second highest rated super bowl of all time, two small market teams.
