My Diet
« on: November 29, 2007, 05:47:04 AM »
As it's always good to hear other's view points and perspectives, I thought I'd lay out my diet and see what you all have to say. Thanks in advance for taking the time.

p.s. I weigh 200 after recovering from an injury and being unable to lift for 6 weeks so I'm looking to regain the 20 or so lbs I've lost due to the layoff and the stress of opening my own business. For your consideration,  I'm relatively lean and always have been and am not interested in simply eating sugar and peanut butter. I don't have a 6 pack per say but am flat in the belly and aim to stay that way as it's not worth it to me to say I weigh 220 and have a belly.

1) 20-25 oz oatmeal with brown sugar (tiny bit) and organic skim milk, 3 dannon plain yogurts

2) pro shake/meal replacement (labrada pro v 60, raspberries, large squirt flax oil, 1 banana, 1 scoop complex carbs powder, ice and water)

3) another identical shake

4)footlong sandwich (tuna usually) and an apple

5) another shake

6) steak, chicken or fish with brown rice and broccoli. Side salad washed down with a tang
(6-8 oz meat, full cook in bag of rice and @ 2/3 cup veggies)

7) another shake

I know it's a lot of shakes, but I own a business and am here 15 hours daily and it wouldn't be appropriate to smell up the place with real food. I drink @ 1 gal of water daily

try to replace some of the shakes with whole foods. 6 ounces of chicken breast, some veggies, and almonds is a good.

1 cup of cottage cheese before bed

some eggs with the oatmeal for breakfeast. youll get bigger and leaner.

4 shakes a day is alot. 2 is much better. post workout and again an hour or so later is great how u have it set up but after that try to get some real food its slower digesting and youll see better gains. if work is the problem grill a bunch of chicken and hard boil eggs once a week and keep them prepared it only takes about 5 minutes to eat.

good luck

personallly i would go with more healthy fats and a whole lot less carbs. meal #6 without the tang(drink some water or a diet soda/diet tea) is an awesoem choice for any tiem during the day. your shake is overloaded with carbs that you dont need and will only promote fat gain. pick either the raspberries, the banana, or the complex carb powder and use just one. keep the flax oil, and the protein, but did i read that right that your putting a "squirt", as in a soda, in there?? please dont telll me thats true. lol.

at brekafast id love to see you drink a protein shake, eat some whole eggs, and have some all natural peanut butter with just a small amount of oatmeal. that is a recipe to get huge quick.

the hard boiled eggs advice is great as well.

Diet looks pretty good to me, if it's what you can stick with go for it. Also what is your exact daily protein intake?

The good fat intake is high with the  large squirts of flax oil in the shakes. I use roughly 2 tablespoons per shake therefore roughly 8 tablespoons daily. My wife cooks dinner with olive oil as well. (unless it's steak)

My metabolism is crazy fast. I'm 39 years old and don't do cardio (never have) and if I don't eat as many carbs as I do, I'll drop weight. That's why I do it. I don't store it as fat. I was the classic ecto/hard gainer youngster.

The protein intake is up there too. I'd estimate roughly 300 grams daily thus making it 1 1/2 grams per bodily pound.

I'm interested in eating real foods instead of the shakes but it seems that's the best I can do these days anyhow. If I eat a real meal it'll smell up the room and clients don't appreciate that.

I appreciate all the input. Like I said, it's great to look at anything you do through someone else's perspective. Thanks
Andy

add more complex carbs to your first few meals....oatmeal, brown rice etc...You're looking to regain some size.....this willl do the trick and won't add fat.

you won't gain size by decreasing your carbs so much....you need them to grow both in and outta the gym.  They also rev your metabolism to aid in the fat burning process.....

extended low carb diets are bunk.  they only result in muscle tissue wasting over time because your body can only burn fat so fast until it resorts to tissue.

hope this helps

Lose the 3 yogurts and replace them with 10 eggwhites or 5-6 whole eggs

Lose the footlong and bring a few cans of tuna with you and eat one ijn place of the sandwich and in place of one of the shakes.

Bring chicken breasts, baked potatoes, hard boiled eggs, tuna, and fruit to work and get serious.

yeah the yogurts are shit. and protein in the morning is a must. i would say definitely go wih the whole eggs. they are a more complete source of protein, more calorie dense for a hard gainer, and the arachidonic acid and cholestrol in egg fat  are both huge test. promoters and keep your workouts very effective, and keeps you very anabolic.

the fotlong tuna sandwich would be fine for a guy like him9very fast metabolism) as long as its whole wheat, and has very little fat(like cheese and the oils they normaly put on sandwhiches).

i would stay away from potatoes, even if you do have a fast metabolism, much better source of carbs iwould be the fruits you suggested, or oatmeal or brown rice, or even another whole wheat sandwhich.

Possibly not, I'm liking the hotrox extreme/sesamin combo quite a bit...

Re read what I wrote and you'll see that all of what you said is impossible because of the work circumstances. That shit smells funky in an office.

Yogurts are not shit. They're great for digestion as well as a nice source of protein especially considering I'm eating 3 of them in conjunction with my enormous oatmeal serving. The fruit instead of potatoes can't work.  I said that I eat 4 shakes daily and each one contains a banana and a handful of raspberries. That's enough fruit for 2 people. Potatoes and rice are necessary at this point. Eggs smell.

If you cook up a bunch of eggs ahead of time, maybe like an omelette, using a decent amount of olive oil for cooking and then reheat as needed, the smell shouldn't be bad.  Cottage cheese, protein pancakes reheated, yams, legumes, whole grain, high fiber bread made into french toast reheated, string cheese, etc. are all office friendly (or at least not too offensive) foods.
