I have faith in the scientific process in that it consistently points out rational features contained in existence.

The scientific method relies on empiricism and logical inference. 

Religion relies on faith which is evidence in the face of no evidence.

I don't see those two entities intersecting.  But for reasons I would guess that are tied to proselytizing, religious people feel compelled to impinge on the turf of science.

scientology is not science but a faith based religion, i dont see your point. science is what keeps people alive, created cars, medicine, understanding of physiology etc.. i dont understand how you could disagree with anything that is reproducible unless you have no brains( i said reproducible). so comparing religion to science using a religion is a poor example.

are you serious? for one carbon dating is a method, and you seem to think its a theory or sorts. it can be reporduced, unlike evolution for example. there could be problems sure, do you admit that the bible could be untrue? also, the universe is not 6000 years old sorry. we would have to through out the big bang theory, our knowledge on how stars form, evolution, redshift, carbon dating, archeology and pretty much every other piece of science to support that ridiuclous claim.where is your proof the earth is 6000 years old. i have proof it isnt, and you decide like most fundies that ignoring factual evidence in favor of something that is demostratebly false is correct. for example if the bible said the earth is flat would you beleive that? that is the kind of problem we in science are dealing with now with the 6000 year old idea.

absolutely, im in science so i know how it operates. i dont have faith in scientists, i know facts. for example in biochemistry pepsin breaks down proteins in the stomach, do i have faith in this? NO, because i dont need irrational faith, its a fact and not subject to change. in theories i have what you would call faith, but there are reasons for beleive, evidence, that is tangible, unlike god.

I don't think Scientology is a science at all.  I could have said Buddhism in place of it.  It does not "make me mad" that people hold those belief systems.  I thought your question was if it makes someone mad that someone else holds a belief system that doesn't necessarily gel w/science.

here is one simple answer, so clearly the bible is wrong and the earth is not 6000 years old. or the doppler effect doesnt exist. you see because of redshift they can calculate the receeding velocity of the stars etc from us and approximate the age of the universe from a point(the big bang). there is no evidence that the earth is 6000 years old, and alot that it is not. if you want more, i can dig up some stuff on evolution, geology, etc.. if you like.

there is no moral absolutes, if god says thou shall not kill then kills, its not absolute. there is no such thing as right or wrong. its just something or prefrontal cortex has made us beleive to aid in propagation of our species. view animals, do they do something wrong? sure killing a child is not nice, but animals due it all the time, its all because of our expanded intelligence we form morals. they serve a purpose, but i really dont think not having sex out of wedlock(a made up thing) is a sin, or stealing is a sin. its all relative.

But it saddens me, and makes me worried, as lives and nations suffers due to religious fanatism, fundamentalist beliefs rooted in religions.

Eg, when Bush sends aid to Africa on the condition that sexual abstinance will be taught.

When Bush states he's on a mandate from God?

When women are lashed, are subject to polygamy, when women don't get equal treatment, just because the Bible or the Koran suggest it is "OK".

That saddens me.

And worries me.

I have no problem with religion, as long as people are able to fit it into a secular, democratic, emancipated society.
