Hines Ward sounds of on big Ben's comments

Trouble in Pittsburgh Paradise as Hines Ward goes off on Big Ben for saying he doesn't want to throw to smurfs anymore.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is on the record as saying he thinks the Steelers need to get a tall wide receiver on the roster.

So how does the Steelers' No. 1 receiver, the (maybe) 6-foot-even Hines Ward, feel about that? Not good. In a story headlined Ward Blindsided by Big Ben's Comments, Ward strikes back:


"I don't hear Tom Brady or Peyton Manning asking for that," Ward said yesterday.

"I don't know, whatever he says. I have no idea. To me, it's a rare combination of receivers out there who are good and tall. We won a Super Bowl, we didn't have a tall receiver then. I don't see Tom Brady caring about who's tall or not. He got Randy this year, but he did it before without him. ...


"To me, I have enough problems to worry about than what Ben wants -- I can't give him the contract,'' Ward said, referring to Roethlisberger's wish to have a contract extension as soon as possible. "He wants a tall receiver? Why did we draft Santonio? ...


"I don't buy into the hype you have to be tall. You throw the ball up and give somebody a chance to make a play, I'll make as many catches as anyone.

ben is a dick for saying this, he's basically saying the guys we have aren't good enough

which is true but he should've kept this behind closed doors

at the same time hines might be a little sensitive, he has always had this "the world is out to get me" attitude because he was drafted later then he expected, they tried to replace him with troy edwards, plaxico, and maybe even santonio and he also feels he would have much better numbers in a more pass happy offense

I agree. I think Ward is far to sensative. He comes of like a crybaby a lot. I do not follow the steelers as closely as I should to have credibility when I say that , but I think Ben was just trying to say a tall wr would compliment an already talented team.

The press has a way of twisting things to make a player look like the bad guy when they want to. Prolly a pretty clear cut case of that here.

yes but ben caused many of the sacks by holding on to the ball longer than he should

I agree.  Ward is arguably the best all around WR in the NFL.  Ben should have kept his comments behind closed doors.

I wouldn't say he's the best but I've never seen him whine like this before..steeler fans chime in. I never thought of him like that. Maybe he is. The Pats will take him..he makes a ton of catches, blocks and fights for the ball. Maybe they can work a trade for Chad Johnson.
