Frank Shamrock out of the game for up to 8 months
« on: April 06, 2008, 03:43:38 AM »
The injury required six screws and a metal plate to repair. It will keep him out of action for upwards of eight months, depending on how his body heals up.

He is not deterred though. Shamrock's camp told MMAWeekly.com that he does plan to fight again, although the plate will have to be removed before he can re-enter the ring.

Until the actual injury I felt that Shamrock was looking more likely to take Le out. Had it not been stopped I honestly think Shamrock would have found his way further and took Le out.

Credit where credit is due though it was a good fight and Le picked up a well deserved victory.

Shamrock didn't really have much of a choice other than to stand with Le.  Le is a decorated collegiate wrestler in addition to his san shou backround.  Shamrock has always said his wrestling is his weakness, he probably couldn't take Le down if he wanted to.  Shammy was starting to time Le's left body/head kicks and was countering with straight right hands.  He was starting to find his range and that is the punch that staggered Cung.  Who knows what would have happened had Shammy not been injured, it seemed like his gameplan after the first round was to wait for those left kicks and counter.  I enjoyed the fight and wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.

“I had him totally on the stand up. He was never going to make it another round or so. I was slowing him down, I was catching his timing, and I was starting to catch his chin. One of us never would have made it out of the fourth round and I don’t think it was going to be me if my arm didn’t break.” - frank
