New member here with a few questions
« on: April 17, 2008, 01:40:38 PM »
Hi everyone, and thanks for the wonderful site.  I'm new to the world of working out, I'm 32 years old, 5'11" and around 215lbs with a spare tire around my waist.  I've changed my diet to only lean meats, chicken and tuna with veggies with Lipton Green Tea and water only (besides PWO fruit smoothie).  I take multivitamins. fiber daily and whey protein.  Here are a few questions I have if some could help out or give some advise.

Are all fruits and vegtables OK for me to eat?

Can I take Creatine and Whey Protein together?  (example) Creatine 30 mins before workout, cardio for 30 mins then take Whey Protein and then lift weights?

Should I add fish oil to my daily vitamin intake?

Thanks for any and all advice and the Protein and Creatine will be Six Starr

so where are you getting your energy?    your corcing your body to break down protien for energy? thats not a smart move.

i wont flame you...

heres something that might thelp you...   the goal of a diet is to direct your body into stored body fat, and let it run on body fat for as long as it can without also turning to proteins. then you want to give it some more energy so it has some real food to work with...then once that runs out let your body run into body fat once more for energy...      all the while while you go through these cycles of running on food, running on fat, running on food, running on fat,   you want you body to be in the background building up muscle tissue ...because the more muscle you have the more calories your body burns. also, you will lok better with more muscle.

so how do you do this?

well thats the hard part
..
every bodys metabolism is different

but

a good starting point would be 5 meals a day
each meal consists of protein, healthy fats, and a moderate amount of very complex fibrous carbohydrates.  the carbs will be your energy. the fats will be back up energy and muscle builders. the protien will be whats used to build muscle.

while your body runs on the carbs, it will be very eficient at building muscle with the protien and fats...then when the carbs run out, it wont be as efficient at building the muslce, because it will be using those fats for energy now.  once those fats run out, your body will delve into stored body fat for energy. at this point all you can do is hope that you have enough protien left over to spare muscle tissue from being catabolised. but hopefully, youll get a meal in before it comes to that.

so there you go....i simplified it as best as i could   and theres more than one way to go about this as well....for example, keto diets, carb cycling, or no diet at all, just cardio twice a day along with heavy lifting 5 times per week and  sticking to low glycemic foods and limitin sat fat intake..

Wow, thanks for the breakdown, that's the best explanation I've ever seen, and I guess that's why I'm so tried all the time.  Here is what I ate, all day a couple of days ago.

Whey protein (one scoop with 4 oz of 1% milk)
workout
Smoothie (frozen fruit, orange juice or yogurt with protein)
couple hours later
chicken with broccoli
couple hours later
iceberg salad with fat free dressing
couple hours later
chicken with broccoli
couple hours
banana with multigrain rice cake
couple hours
about 3 servings of tuna fish in water
couple hours
banana with multigrain rice cake

So I'm not getting enough health fats and carbs right?

Whey protein (one scoop with 4 oz of 1% milk)im not a fan of milk fat. i would go non fat milk, with a tablespoon of all natrual peanut butter
workout
Smoothie (frozen fruit, orange juice or yogurt with protein)since your looking to lose body fat, post workout you want whey protien along with some healthy fats...milk has carbs so no milk.
couple hours later
chicken with broccolithis would be fine, execept you either throw in some complex carbs, or throw in some healthy fat)
couple hours later
iceberg salad with fat free dressing big mistake. you need protein at every meal. and drop the fat free dressing (its just sugar) use lemon juice if you want something on your salad.  again, theresno energy here, either go with healthy fats or complex carbs
couple hours later
chicken with broccoliyou need energy. healthy fats or complex carbs
couple hours
banana with multigrain rice cakethis meal is al carbohydrates. i wouldnt recommend this to even someone looking to add weight. go with protein at every meal. and then add in some energy (complex carbs or healthy fats)
couple hours
about 3 servings of tuna fish in water (i would add in ONLy healthy fats here, you want to get your body burning through fat because soon youll be sleeping, a time when you can burn tons of fat.b]
couple hours
banana with multigrain rice cakebig mistake here. not thats its your fault..you dont know any better. but your last meal befor eyou go to bed should be protein and veggies only. no energy required because youll be alseep. any energy will most likely be stored as fat..    i would go with a big amount of lean red meat, with some broccoli.
there

So I'm not getting enough health fats and carbs right?

OK the last 3 meals I eat is at my second job, Wal-Mart.  The bananas and rice cakes are on break and the tuna is on lunch.   My last meal is around 2.5 hours before I go to bed.  So what would you recommend for them 3 last meals, maybe some protein bars or meal replacement bars?

protein bars and meal replcaement bars are all loaded with sugar, andmost saturated fats as well.

that six star whey protien yu said you hav ewill be fine..a couple of scoops of that alon with a tablespoon of all natural peanut butter.

of course, whole food(chicken, tuna, fish, beef) is always better than powders...but you gotta do what you gotta do

YESA TAKE AS MUCH FISH OIL AS YOU CAN AFFORD TO TAKE

VEGETABLES, ALL OF THEM ARE OKAY EXCEPT PEAS AND CORN

FRUITS, EAT THEM SPARINGLY...ONLY LOW GLYCEMIC ONES. BANANAS ARE ACTUALLY ONE OF THE MOST ENERGY DENSE FRUITS. I WOULDNT EAT THEM. GREEN PPLES AND BERRIES ARE VERY GOOD FRIT CHOICES.

DONT DO CARDIO BEFORE YOU LIFT WEIGHTS. DO YOUR CARDIO IN THE MORNING BEFORE YOU EAT ANYTHING. JUST WALK AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR 45 MINS.

TAKE YOUR PROTEINN AND YOUR CREATIN AT THE SAME TIME..IMMIDIETLY AFTER YOU LIFT.
