COD liver oil, DHA
« on: May 03, 2008, 12:40:46 PM »
Recently switched to cod liver oil as my EFA's. I am taking about 2-3 tablespoons daily in protein shakes. Since I started this, I am feeling a bit light headed, dizzy feeling somtimes. Could this be caused by too much DHA from the cod liver oil?

vitamin A toxicity perhaps.

cod liver has little to no dha, fish oil does however. I would doubt its related to your o-3 intake and more so to do with slightly toxic amounts of vitamin A.

Cod Liver oil as a lot of Vitamin A, so too much of it can/will lead to vitamin A toxicity as well (as usmokepole said).

your bestbet for supplementation for vitamin A is beta carotene which is a precusor that is under enzymatic control and can not create toxicity in the conversion. it is also a great anti oxidant.

Why?

Cod LIVER  :-X oil -vs- Fish (body) Oil.

Unless you live in Alaska or someplace with little sunshine, fish oil would be a much better choice.
