Pullups... With biceps or back?
« on: July 16, 2008, 04:20:17 PM »
I have been training for years without doing pullups so its no suprise I have relatively weak biceps.

My current split is:

Monday: Chest/Biceps
Tues:     Back/Triceps
Wed:      Legs
Thurs:   Shoulders/Biceps

I used to do the Chest/Tris, Back/Bis, legs, then shoulders, but lately I have gotten much better results with this split.

My Question is will I get more benefit from a biceps persective starting with pullups on biceps day or should I just do pullups on back day?

With your current split, you'd get more benefit doing pullups on back day due to the prime movers involved.

If you wait until biceps days your back will not be fresh and you will not get the same feel.

Do the pullups as a last exercise on back day as a burnout......

wide grip chins are probly one of the best back excerises u can do if performed correctly,, got to get those elbows back, as yates said, as if you were elbowing somone behind you

v bar chins are a good variation too, get an unreal stretch at the bottom...

however, i dont rate chins as a biceps exersize, so many better movements to play with

Shoulder width chinups are the only exercise I do for back and biceps.  My biceps look better lately when I don't train them directly.  Could be worth a try.

you want to try as hard as you can to keep your biceps relaxed and free of tension when doing pull ups/pulll downs.  pull from the back of the elbow, not the hand. your hands are merely HOOKS..

strong biceps comes from heavy curls.

Thank you for the info guys. I have always good sized arms but relatively weak biceps. When I first started training I neglected biceps as I was training for football and wresting, but over the years that obviously changed.

The one constant in my training was that I have never really done pullups. I hit the back hard and I train biceps pretty heavy as well, but for some reason have never really done pullups regularly (if at all)

u dont need to kill your biceps either, 3 movements, moderate weight ( make your bicep do the work)... u wanna include hammer curls in there regularly too
