Leucine in isolation from the other two BCCAs?
« on: August 31, 2008, 09:23:20 AM »
Lots of products offering the amino acid isolated. I have always read that BCCAs can only bring about their desired effect in conjunction with each other. What's the deal?

As far as I know, the theory is that spiking leucine levels will cause anabolism (what else is new...) because it's a "trigger amino."  In truth, an elevated leucine level is probably just one of many conditions which could be observed before heightened protein synthesis.  I haven't ever tried it, but it sounds like more supplement sales hucksterism to me.

I thought as much. Are you afraid of Great White Sharks?

I have decided to try taking fairly large doses of Leucine evey day for the next 6 weeks to see if I notice any results. I have been training for over 20 years and am very in tune with my body. I definitely know when a supplement works or if it doesn't. I think from the research I have read that leucine could very well indeed trigger an anabolic effect. Of course, a steroid user will probably not notice any results but a natural who trains hard may notice something.
