I seen Steve Forbes get beat decidedly by an aging Oscar de la Hoya, I really think he lost just about ever round...

Why in the hell is he fighting Andre Berto? Isn't Berto like 25 years old? Do they not trust his skills to put him into a ring with someone a little better than Steve Forbes? I am starting to get the impression that Berto's management is coddling him by fighting these cans.

At what point does he shed the image of a "highly touted prospect" and become better known as a "bondafide contender"?

This is supposed to be his coming out fight.  Forbes is good enough not to get put away, and has accomplished just enough to get Berto a little bit of credability if he wins.  It's probably the lowest risk "step up" for Berto around (at 147lbs).  Forbes will hang in there and probably frustrate Berto a bit, but I think Berto should out work him in a competetive, but clear cut decision.  Once Berto faces a real 147lber, (one that can punch) then he should worry, he's still got some pretty big holes in his game.

  • TEAM NO MERCY!!!
good post.

...but I think forbes will be no walk in the park for berto.

and it would be wise to keep berto away from seasoned guys that can take advantage of his obvious flaws in there until he fixes them (maybe he has already...not sure)

there was an entire thread on berto awhile back on here. check it out.

I've seen both guys fight at Pachanga (forbes losing his title on the scales years ago and Berto just last year) and I remember thinking that Berto actually reminded me of a younger forbes only with more power...

I can see Forbes giving berto some angles and a little trouble for the first half of the fight....

This fight went pretty much the way I thought it would, except it was a little bit more entertaining than I though it would be.  Berto's next step up should be somebody like Judah or Cintron.
