BJ or GSP, Brock or Randy?
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:02:55 AM »
I was on another board and they were debating who had better JJ BJ or GSP? Who do you guys think

Then who do you think has better wrestling? Brock or Randy?

I think Penn has better JJ then GSP, I think the Brock Randy one is a hard one to call. Brock being the HW collegiate champ and Randy being the olympic wrestler.. I have a hard time with who has the better skill on that one.

BJ is way better skilled than GSP at BJJ.  It would be nice if BJ had the strength and endurance like GSP.  Then he would be a clear winner in every fight.

That's the part that has me confused. BJ has never really been known for his hands, but he does have some serious heavy hands. (Early in his career).. When he comes in on top of his game, his cardio is great, but I think this time he will come in a monster..  I  guess we will see...

Watch the vid of BJ rolling with Leo Vierra, and then you tell me who has better BJJ.  Gracie Barra hype machine taking advantage of another poster boy in GSP.

BJ's Jit's is'nt gonna be enough to offset GSPs size/reach/strength/endurance/wrestling..

I don't follow wrestling but I would imagine that there was more guys at Randys weight than Brock and because of that he faced more and tougher competition meaning he went as far as the Olympics he should be more skilled also Brock I assume is more of a natural strong guy compared to Randy which might mean that Randy is more technical because he couldnt rely on his strenght as much as Brock.

As for BJ I have nothing to add that you haven't said already

Good point about the wrestling, but I think that at the college wrestling HW division to be a champ that means that you have faced the best at that weight. I guess with less you have the chance of not having as many good guys. I just have to agree with Brock that Randy has never fought anyone close to his size. Tim Sylvia doesn't count....

On the other hand Brock has never been on his back or been punched in the face by a competitior. Tim Sylvia got rocked by Randy and I don't think Randy is to fearful, which means Brock could be in trouble. I think that their is so much of Brocks game that we have not seen that it is a hard fight to call....

GSP got lucky with the decision last time with BJ.  GSP face was fucked up.  GSP is stronger cause he is bigger than BJ.  BJ controls GSP on the ground even though GSP is stronger.  It will be a great fight if BJ is in shape.  So we will see.

Ask Pablo Popovich, Alan Goeas, Charuto, Leo Vierra, etc....

To add fuel to the fire, here is a video BJ's camp filmed that will get more people on the GSP bandwagon.

Anyone who says GSP is better on the ground than BJ is smoking crack.

Guys who say BJ doesn't train hard have no idea.  They have never seen BJ train or see what he does when he is in the gym.  When he is doing cardio he has several people who do it with him.  If someone runs out of gas another steps up and trains alongside of BJ.  He might have alot of fun outside the gym but inside he is all business.  As long as he stays focused on the fight he will kill GSP.  No doubt about it.  Seeing that video makes me miss that gym.

What gym is it? does he have his own gym or is that a public gym? Looks  like they have fun doing what they do. I have always wanted to train with BJ as he is my favorite fighter of all time. My buddy just moved to hawaii a couple of months ago and got a change to bump into BJ. Said he was a hella cool guy, aww to not have responsibilities and be able to just pick up and move...

BJ has his own gym in Hilo in the old cracker manufacturing location.  A must see when in Hilo.  And he is hella cool.  My son's two favorite fighters are BJ and Randy.  BJ remembered my son's name the last time we saw him and my son couldn't believe it.  (He has only met him three times)

At 4:27 of the Judo tournament you see just how fast BJ is. When he goes for the hip toss and it doesnt work, but he ends up on the dudes back I was thinking thats how you do it.. dude is incredible, none of the black belts showed him any respect due to him mopping the floor with them... What year was this mid  90's??

Here is the website to the gym. www.penntrainingandfitness.com  They originally bought it for BJ so he could train but it soon became a gathering place so they made it public.  there is a weight room at street level and then the MMA center and other stuff downstairs.
