Is this OK?
« on: December 23, 2008, 10:07:06 AM »
Quick question here...

Cutting down from 180 to 170 and here were my totals from last night...

Totals:  Calories   1,500     Fat 35g     Carbs 137g  (from sugar 53g)   150g protein

On first glance I thought my sugar intake is high, but I am not too sure -- opinions?

Last night I ate 1 piece of peanut brittle and 1 small chocolate chip cookie which account for 18g of the fat I ate -- so usually my fat intake is lower, around 12-20g.

My primary foods are tuna, chicken, garden salad (the bagged version) and mixed frozen veggies (green giant etc.), oatmeal in the morning. I also eat 2 astro yogurts for snacks at differing times.

Based on my calculations I should eat around 1,768 to naturally lose 500 calories of weight based on my day-to-day lifestyle. So I was even less than that -- however my goal is to be right at my calorie threshold to keep my body healthy while cutting.

I do cardio for 500 additional calories a day.

Just at quick glance, your cals seem kinda low and your sugars seem kinda high.  The carbs are fine, but it doesn't appear that you are eating the right kinds of carbs.  Same with fats.  Maybe get rid of the sugars and yogurt?

If you are also doing cardio every day and training with weights, it does seem low for total cals.  I usually go about 1500 when I am contest prepping and doing cardio every day, and I am considerably smaller than you.

How are your meals structured, and how many per day?

:)

:-) Thanks for the reply!

My regular diet is as follows:

9 A.M. 1 Packet of Oatmeal = 130 Cal, 1.5g Fat, 26.0g Carb, 3.0g Pro
10 A.M. 1 Astro Yogurt Cup = 40 Cal, 0.0g Fat, 6.0g Carb, 4.0g Pro
11:30 A.M. 1 Can of Lemon-Pepper Tuna = 110 Cal, 3.0g Fat, 2.0g Carb, 18.0g Pro
1 P.M. Chicken Salad = 157.5 Cal, 4.0g Fat, 42g Carb, 8.5g Pro
2 P.M. Chicken Salad = 157.5 Cal, 4.0g Fat, 42g Carb, 8.5g Pro (too busy to eat it all at once at work)
3 P.M. 1 Astro Yogurt Cup = 40 Cal, 0.0g Fat, 6.0g Carb, 4.0g Pro
5 P.M. Pre W/O Shake (forgot totals atm but 1 scoop before/after = around 120 cal, 2g fat, 3-5g carb and 24g pro)
6:45 P.M.: Post W/o Shake (forgot totals atm but 1 scoop before/after = around 120 cal, 2g fat, 3-5g carb and 24g pro)
7:30 P.M.: P/O Meal =
Green Giant Valley Selections Baby Blend = 140 Cal, 0.0g Fat, 26.0g Carb, 6.0g Pro
Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast 10 oz = 300 Cal, 3.0g Fat, 65.0g Pro
Total = 1310 cal approx (due to missing shake info) -- in my initial post I did not include my p/o shake. So my protein would be up another 24g to around 148g, carbs to about 140g.

Extras: (this are not part of my normal daily diet)
Souplantation Chocolate Chip Cookie - 1 Small = 70 Cal, 3.0g Fat, 10.0 Carb, 0.0g Pro
See's Candies Peanut Brittle = 210 Cal, 15.0g Fat, 19.0g Carb, 4.0g Pro

To be honest I forgot my p/o shake in my initial totals, but still I am barely above 1650 then -- and that is with a bit of junk. and in my initial total included a coffee I usually don't drink (so +sugar). On a NORMAL day my fat is around 15-20g and my sugar is at 27-30g. However my calories are also lower (less food), so then if I subtract all those extras I take off another 330 calories per day. 1310 calories is obviously way, way below a healthy limit for me.

Ideally I want to add in more chicken, perhaps a solid pound a day. I could possibly opt for 4 cups of veggies too.

Help please :-)!

Something's not right about that chicken salad  ???  Way too little protein and way too many carbs. Does it have noodles or something?

You need some healthy fats and protein with the oatmeal (eggs maybe).  A 1000 calorie deficit/day is too much.  Keep the 500 calorie cardio but up the food calories.

Yeah something's not right about your numbers... how can the chicken salad only have  8.5g protein but then you have a 10 oz chicken breast for 65 g?

I wouldn't worry so much about the cals, and just try to focus on eating 6 or so small meals spread evenly throughout the day, having your complex carbs in the first half of the day, eating healthy fats, and reducing the amount of sugar you are taking in through dairy and other sources.  Keep it simple...go back to the basics and tighten up the diet.  :)
