That's easy.  Jesus followed, read and recited the Old Testament constantly, and his life, words and teachings inspired the New Testament.

then the answer should be simple for christians...follow what jesus followed

good enough for jesus = good enough for them...

That's the idea, I suppose.

There was a time when I thought the Old Testament was not really relevant.  My thinking was the Old Testament was based on law and the New Testament is based on Grace.  This is true, but you need to study and understand both.  In fact, I do not believe a Christian can truly understand God without knowing both.

From the Articles of Religion, 1928 Book of Common Prayer...

VII. Of the Old Testament.

The Old Testament is not contrary to the New: for both in the Old and New Testament everlasting life is offered to Mankind by Christ, who is the only Mediator between God and Man, being both God and Man. Wherefore they are not to be heard, which feign that the old Fathers did look only for transitory promises. Although the Law given from God by Moses, as touching Ceremonies and Rites, do not bind Christian men, nor the Civil precepts thereof ought of necessity to be received in any commonwealth; yet notwithstanding, no Christian man whatsoever is free from the obedience of the Commandments which are called Moral.

There is only one original Bible, so to speak. The original languages, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek are what the Bible is derived from. There are many transliterated/translated Bibles from these original languages. So one has to do some research in order to choose which one (Bible) comes the closest.

I'm sure it's apparent now, "which" one Jesus would have followed. To the reasonable, that is.  :)

Even though no English was spoken in that part of the world at the time Jesus was on the earth, He still used the King James Bible.  "Can't get to Heaven without the 1611."  At least that's what some believe.   :D

So as a Christian you should follow the laws and guides set in the old testament, it's just that you're forgiven, not bound for messing up?

That is a pretty good summarization.  Obviously, this is a very broad topic.

Fair question, one that has vexed people for centuries.  Many believe that "eye for an eye" is more of a limitation than an invitation, that it forbids "excessive revenge."  Here is the text:

Leviticus 24:17-22

17And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.

18And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.

 19And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;

20Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

21And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.

22Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

Another common belief is that "eye for an eye" is part of the "Law"   Jesus did not come to destroy the Law.  Instead, he fulfilled he Law.  So what appears to be a contradiction is really just a matter of completion.
