I lost a buddy in the early days of the Iraq war.  He was buried at West Point.  I remember the day like yesterday.  His name was Captain Eric Palouotta.  The funeral and service was at West Point in the freezing cold.  His fiance and parents were there along with a lot of friends. 

Kennedy was not there.

This poor guy was in the "green zone" relaxing in the barracks when some sand rat fired a random mortar into the area.  The mortar landed in the barracks where Eric was staying and BANG, a life lost just like that.  Never had a chance to shoot back or even see his killer or attempt to defend himself.   

He was months away from getting married and his funeral in the snow at West Poinyt was horrible.  I remember the cadets walking by looking at this wondering if this was going to be their fate as well.

especially those from his own state.

I know it's not nice to speak badly of the dead, but he was not a good man, and the only reason he gets all these accolades in because his last name was Kennedy.

I've gotten one of the major milblogs to pick this up and run with it. Several people have answered and Kennedy did come to atleast one funeral...of a Harvard professor who's son was killed. The guy was a Vietnam vet, an ego manic and critical of the war..moreso because nobody at the Pentagon would listen to his views on how to run it. I'm sure Kennedy has gone to some but very few, and this never needed to be printed as it was.
