Cheating with sugar
« on: October 08, 2009, 07:35:24 PM »
Which one of these would make you fatter, or is there no difference?

1. Eating a bunch of sugar, like five cookies, in one sitting.

2. Having one cookie five days a week.

Does it make a difference?

i would say it's the same caloric amount so it shouldn't make a difference. However, if it does and it might. 5 cookies at once is "a lot" of sugar, where as 1 cookie a day is nothing and your body will barely notice it.

It does make a difference - your body works on a 24hour a day clock, not a seven day week. Doing the first one will make you fatter but probably only marginally assuming you're not cheating the rest of the week.

I'm with this guy..

if you're going to cave...caving in one sitting is less detrimental than doing it routinely.

it's like having a case of beer once versus drinking a six pack or hitting happy hour daily...

one times a party....habit makes you an alcoholic!  ;D

most cookies caloric content are more than 50% fat,.... not what i would call a source of sugar.. although they do contain some sugar..

if you want to cheat with sugar.... try fat free ice cream based on skim milk... or fat free candies based on dextrose... those wont make you fat and they taste awesome

From my own experience, there is no difference whatsoever as long as your overall caloric intake is the same.
But if you want to go in the "safe route" just have a cookie a day, I don't think you'll get fat that way. Again as long as your calories are controlled.

Because of the huge insulin spike of eating 5 cookies at once it is less likely that your body would be able to effectively utilize all of that sugar, so I would say to break them up into small servings.

The question then becomes if you have the discipline to eat "cheat foods" in small servings like that, which others have eluded to.

Have you ever tried using ALA or other glucose control products for when you decide to hit the sweets? I have personally found some of these supplements to be quite effective.
