Front Squats
« on: October 06, 2009, 06:36:09 PM »
I just started adding these into my leg routine. Are they a worthwhile exercise? Pros v. cons? They definitely feel awkward; therefore, I only do 3 sets of 10-12 with light weight after doing normal squats, which usually is 5-6 sets of 4-8 reps. Opinions?

Coaches like Poliquin recommend that you don't go over 6-8 reps, because the support muscles will begin to fail, and you'll lose tight form.
The benefits of Front Squats are that you isolate the quads more over Back Squats, and your back may not be as susceptible, especially if you're a taller guy you won't have to lean over as you do in Back Squats.
Cons, to me is they are hard to get used to with bar position and you can't use as much weight, but it's worth getting over this hump and the con eventually turns into a pro.

i agree. also if you dont have a decent sized upper body already dont do them till you bulk up a little.
