Hey, I'm glad you're here!

Samson says he learned that the United States lost the Revolutionary War in School.

What did they teach you about the subject in your school?  Did you go to School in the UK?  ???

Yes i did and it was a very good one too!!...to be honest we mostly skip over it, I only started learning about the revolutionary war once I went to America. The only thing I learned in school was that George III was responsible for losing the colonies. However that's also because I chose to focus on 19th century history for my final History exams i.e year 12 (called A levels, in history you get the choice of which century you want to study from 15th to 20th) had i focused on 18th century history im sure I would have covered it in some depth.

that being said most kids dont know a thing about it, since history is not a mandatory subject past the age of 14 and the focus till 14 is learning about kings and queens and then the first world war. but up if you chose to study history until 16 we actually have to pass a mandatory unit on 20th century american history, I wrote something on FDR's new deal if I remember correctly!

The general consensus in Britain tho, is that our greedy merchants fucked over the colonists and drove SOME of them to rebellion, the stress is that many stayed loyal to the crown. With regards to winning or losing, the general line is that we chose to withdraw seeing no benefit in contiuing the war, which I suppose would be considered a loss. By that time securing trade in India was becoming a far more important goal, thus whilst the loss of the colonies was hurtful, it was by no means essential to maintain them.

One thing I love is that when you go to view the American Declaration of Independence in DC you first have to walk past one of the original copies of magna carta written in 1214.

In my view those are the two most important documents in the history of western civilisation.
