Drought dries up food supply?

It's the California cornucopia so many Canadians rely on. But could a water shortage shrivel our supply of healthy food? Paul Johnson investigates in part II of Table Matters.

As I recall, Canadians aren't the hosers screaming about and calling for the mass deportation of California's migrant farm labour populations out of the country. You might want to look a little closer to home for those guys. ...besides, we're probably better off not eating giant irradiated strawberries anyway.  :P

Our food prices for California produce will probably go down. Despite higher prices for food, the lower US dollar mitigates that. the Cdn loony has risen 26% since this time last year. I went to the bank on Monday to cash a cheque... and it wasn't pretty. I got 99 cents Cdn for every $1 USD, ...and this trend isn't stopping anytime soon.  :-\

lol!

Some of use actually made it thru the industrial revolution and use equipment, and thus have no need for illegals.

Also consider that only 5% of mexicans work in agriculture, while over 50% are on public assistance of some sort. The costs far outweigh the benefits.

While I doubt your figures are credible, for the sake of argument, let us assume they are,
...nothwithstanding, that public assistance actually subsidizes the lost cost of the produce found in your supermarkets. If the public asistance were to cease, and the real cost of produce were to be borne by the American public, they would not only welcome the 50% assistance given out, but they'd vote in any politician who vowed to give these workers a home & a car at tax payer expense too (except 3333... he won't like that idea... he hates everything)  :P

and btw, ...my post refered to the deportation of "California's migrant farm workers", ...I did not say Mexicans.

Not quite moron.  Anyone who lives here has to deal with the reduc ed quality of life of having these people lines up and down the streets, standing on street corners drinking beers on 8 am on sunsay mornings, watching their squatty fat pig wives with 4 baby strollers that I am paying for etc.

No thanks.  I would gladly pay double for my food if we could end the freebies to these people and incarcerate their employers.

Doubt all you want, when I have more time I will find a link to the source.

"California migrant farm workers' are mexicans. Lets not do the liberal 'everything is a gray area' bullshit. True, there might be a cambodian or two in there somewhere, but the majority are messy-cans.

Giving them free everything INCREASES the cost of everything via taxes to support them. CA has the seventh largest economy in the world and can't keep up with the handouts it gives to illegals. Stop the handouts, and the budget problem is solved.

Why the fuck is it aways the employers fault?  If I rent a flat to you , and you set up an indoor grow, am I responsible?

The CRIMINAL is responsible! NOT the victim!

WOW...this is news to hear. Despite many people screaming about coming droughts and food shortages some are still living in LALA land thinking everything is fine. It would literally take minutes to clean out even the biggest grocery stores of all of its food should an announcement be made that there is a food shortage and food deliveries will be extremely limited. California better invest in those desalinization machines and start living off of the Pacific abundance of water. Hey Jag...maybe a pipeline can be built from Canada's frozen north and fresh water pumped down to California...it's an idea

I doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon... at least not without some false flag provocation to wage war on Canada.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but Prime Minister Harper cheered & celebrated a UN decision a few years back that said the right to water is not an essential human right. Despite our abundant supply of freshwater, people up here have not taken water for granted. We've been acutely aware of the water situation around the world and have been monitoring this for years. One of my best friends bought some property in Owen Sound ON back in 1991 because it came with water rights for the property. She's been sitting on it ever since for this very reason waiting for when water runs out everywhere else. Another friend of mine Ron an organic farmer, just completed his first $5,000,000 deal selling water to the Japanese. He has a well on his farm that has been tested and proven to be the 2nd or 3rd purest supply of water in all of Canada. The only other sources that are purer aren't feasible because they are in the Canadian Shield and would have to be shipped out through Hudson's Bay, and taken through the arctic then down and around NFLD & Labrador, whereas his supply can simply be trucked out in tankers. Currently the going price is $5 gallon and expected to rise precipitously in the coming years.. even more than oil, ...and he gets it free from his own backyard.

Well I can see that you're clearly rattled. You can't even keep it straight whether you're talking about Drug & Narcotic law... or immigration law. in the case of the landlord who rents a flat to a tenant who decides to start an indoor grow, the landlord is held responsible so that the government can go in and steal his property. I don't know about you, but I think that if the governing authorities are going to steal your land, this is a far more preferable form of theft than the one authorities were using back in Salem or during the Inquisition years.

It was an example sweetheart. Typical liberal faggotry... blaming everyone except the one responsible for the crime.

I love it when people living in F*N canadia feel qualified to comment on issues in CA.

Move on down here for a few years and get back to us.

First off, ...I'm NOT your sweetheart

secondly, this is as I said, a legalized way to steal property from the rightful owner.

:o  Really?  That's remarkable. I didn't know you had the capacity to appreciate wisdom imparted from abroad. Based on both your tone & attitude, I would've guessed it was quite the opposite

lol!!!!  :D

But you're thinking about it, aren't ya?  ;)

A canadian commenting on social issues in CA is like us commenting on the price of avacados in Ontario. We wouldn't presume to know (or care) anything about it.

You guys can have all the mexicans you want. They're all yours. We'll trade them for a years supply of Labatt.
