As previously stated, the president lacks the authority to appropriate money. Therefore it is far more relevant to determine which party in control of congress authorized the greater average monthly debt. The following is a table of debt incurred by Congress indicating political party in control since 1993;
Party in Control # of Months Party Controlled Average Monthly Debt
Democrats,both chambers,93-95 24 $26,413,351,644
Republicans, both chambers,95-01 72 $12,797,833,521
House Republican,Senate Democrat,01-03 24 $27,475,543,755
Republicans, both chambers,03-07 48 $47,803,411,784
Democrats, both chambers,07-Current 41 $110,396,573,138
Admittedly, this is not news to me, it was merely an exercise to lay out my argument that Obama’s claim he “inherited” the debt issue from Bush is at least disingenuous, at most an outright lie. There are some who doubt my understanding of historical and current events, and so I feel the need to show the math. If you still doubt me, do the math yourself.
