Why be in such a hurry to put him in there with top 5 guys?  For as good as he is, Jones still does not have that much experience.  Even if he could get past guys like Silva or Lil Nog, I think he would be better off waiting 1-2 years and in that time continue to gain experience and mature.  Not only that, but he will continue to build his name and a decent fight record.  He would only be 25 before going against the top five.

If they do it right, Jones could be the 1st real dominant LHV in the UFC.

Rampage, Rashad, Lyoto and Rua should be off limits to him for his next fight.

He should fight Silva or Bader next.

If he wins that fight, he should get either a title shot, or at the very least fight the Lyoto-Rampage loser.

Anyone else at 205 is a joke for him at this point. What else does he need to do? Giving him trash bags over and over again is going to lead to people taking less of an interest in him and his skills will diminish at the same time.

He needs a real test and by real I mean an actual challenge. He is too gifted, too strong and way too good a wrestler to prep him with another 3 or 4 bullshit fights.

You gain experience (valuable experience) by fighting the best and having some wars, not by pounding on subpar fighters that don't deserve to be in the ring with you. As a 23 year old with a 12-0 record, he should be going for it now, not wasting his time. He has taken no damage and experienced virtually no hardship as a professional. Going for it now is only going to help him, not hurt him.

I see your point, but if it were up to me, he would 4-5 times per year with the B level UFC fighters (none of which are a joke).  And, when facing these opponents, if it's so easy for him, he should use the fights are training sessions to try out new techniques or fight to his opponents strengths instead of their weaknesses.

he's not 12-0 he lost a fight last year in the 1st round so he needs a few more wins in a row before he earns a title shot

He's calling for the top guys now, if you beat a good fighter you're expected to continue to fight better fighters until you reach the top.  You're idea of "right" is one of the dumber ideas ive heard in a while, he's  already headlining cards and Dana said he's getting a top 8 guy next, he's 2 fights away from a title shot.

I meant to say Machida is his biggest threat...i.e. the timing thing.

I agree though.. he should get either bader or silva next.  That would be a step up.  I'd like to see bader...although one of them has to lose, and they're both UFC gloryboys right now.

Amen!  And if Hammil wants a rematch he'll get the crap beat outta him again.  He used the illegal blow as a excuse to say he couldn't continue on.  Hammil was being gnp'd into the ground!

Marty is just being a retard as usual. Jones raped Hammil in that fight. Elbows or not, that shit wasn't making it out of round 1.

He WHOOPED Hammil's ass in that fight. That is one of the most complete beatings I have seen. Most wars just end up with bloody faces. Hammill's shoulder, ribs, face, etc were destroyed. That illegal elbow was a BS call. Hammill was whiped b4 that. And while I am on Hammill, that is one of the most over rated fighters IMO. I feel Dana tries to shove him down everyone's throat. He is a robotic punching dummy. He is slow, and just zombie walks while his opponent beats his face till they get tired. His striking looks worse than Hughes.

this is why ufc needs a tournament/ grand prix per weight class imo. If guys handlers/dana wants to milk young talent on wasted shows , and at the same time NOT give them a shot a the top guys out there...throw them in a freaking grand prix (one match per show..not the old school 3 fight per night deal) style tourney that lasts year round and crown a grand prix champ per weight class at year end and give them a check for 100 grand or something like that...then every january bring in the new year grand prix champ BAD ASS per weight class vs the current champion for the belt.

Every UFC january card every year would be STACKED....grad prix champ vs undisputed champ from top to bottom every weight class that night..all title shots. Then start over the grand prix again..etc.

The way the ufc is set up now....just wasting talent imo.

that sh*t would be awesome....dana email me if you need help getting this sh*t figured out.

Been saying this for years.
