I'm not talking about criminals (proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of their peers). However someone who is a suspected criminals (innocent until proven guilty) should be given the right to a speedy trial, and not held indefinitely without trial. That's BS. I haven't even gotten into the BS inequity for marginalized Americans.
If that's all you're talking about (holding detainees indefinitely without charges), then your comments are an overstatement. As I mentioned, I don't agree with holding people indefinitely without charging them. But that hardly makes our policies "unfair, brutal, [and] reprehensible."
We have an outstanding system. You won't see us cutting off anyone's head, baiting students to cross the border and imprisoning them as "spies," stoning women to death for committing adultery, etc. Even the worst of the worst eventually get their day in court. Not a perfect system, but overall it's the best in the world.
