Anyone go vegan/vegeterian and stick with it ... or go back?

Read "The China Study" over the holidays. Makes an interesting case for eating only plants (fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, etc.) for optimal health and disease prevention.

Anyone here ever make the switch to vegetarianism? What kind of results did you get related to your weight training?

I already dropped a few pounds by trying to avoid almost all animal-based foods in the past month.

Let's face it, most of us already know that to be big AND cut requires gear.

Isn't a build of respectable muscle (with non-drug obtained mass) much healthier in the long run?

Sure, loading up on extra protein helps with recovery, but is it too much? I've never been able to load up on protein and not put on some extra fat.

Will give this a try for a few months and report back.

This was also an interesting book, and gave me the motivation to try a new way of eating.

Not everyone who is vegetarian is the skinny, pussy we usually think of.

Hi MP,

I can't give you any results as they pertain to weight training. I made my conversion many years ago.
A herbalist put me on an extremely restrictive diet for 3 weeks, that cut out all meat, and animal products, and all citrus fruits, junk foods, soft drinks, etc,. It was the dullest, tasteless, most bland diet I'd ever eaten. Despite the horrendous sacrifice, and traumatic hardship on my taste buds, my body was loving it. It seemed like every system in my body was coming alive and functioning like a well oil machine. It was like night and day. My body had never felt so good. I also experienced tremendous mental and emotional benefits as well. After the 3 weeks, when I ingested any animal product, I felt immediately sluggish. I also found during that 3 week period my skin cleared up, my eyes brightened. As traumatic as it was for my palate, I did my best to maintain the diet in order to continue to enjoy the emotional, mental, and physical effects.
