well they Recently discovored 49 I think it was, I find it hard to believe that have had the time to find 500 million more ina  month when a few months ago they didnt know about even one

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/video/2011-02/04/c_13719078.htm

"BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhuanet) --An orbiting NASA telescope is finding whole new worlds of possibilities in the search for alien life including more than 50 potential planets that appear to be in a habitable zone."

"54 of them are seemingly in the zone that could be hospitable to life. Kepler was launched in 2009 and orbits the sun between Earth and Mars."

and now all of a sudden 500 million?  ???

did you smell thinner before listening to the radio failcon?

"Scientists have figured out that our galaxy, the lovely Milky Way, has over 50 billion planets. Also mind-blowing: 500 million of those planets are in the zone where life could theoretically exist.

NASA estimated the number of planets by extrapolating from a sample that they found during a year of searching with the Kepler telescope. (Here's a fun little '80s-style animation that shows you how the telescope finds planets, by the way.) Their estimate was based on the assumption that one out of two stars has planets, and the Milky Way has at least 100 billion stars"

hmm

lets stick with 50 for now

Milky Way Has 500 Million Theoretically Habitable Planets

Scientists have figured out that our galaxy, the lovely Milky Way, has over 50 billion planets. Also mind-blowing: 500 million of those planets are in the zone where life could theoretically exist.

NASA estimated the number of planets by extrapolating from a sample that they found during a year of searching with the Kepler telescope. (Here's a fun little '80s-style animation that shows you how the telescope finds planets, by the way.) Their estimate was based on the assumption that one out of two stars has planets, and the Milky Way has at least 100 billion stars.

Anyway -- when do we make contact with the aliens?

50 is incredible enough. and it seems like the 500 million is just pure assumptions.

too lazy to check up exactly what the first telescope found out though. and what differs that from the 500 million.
