Funny isn't it? Every year they do stripey nautical for Spring and leopard print in Fall? So easy to be fashionable if you notice these things...
Horizontal stripes actually make you look thin not fat
Exclusive by Amber Morales Fashion EditorHaving a "fat" day? That means you'll probably stick to dark colours, wear an over-sized jacket - and avoid horizontal stripes like the plague.
But guess what? You will only end up making yourself look even bigger.
New research shatters the long-held fashion rule which dictates that curvy girls should stick to up and down stripes, which elongate the figure, and shun "widening" side to side stripes.
The man who has exploded this myth is Peter Thompson, an expert in perception in York University's psychology department.
He asked people to compare more than 200 pairs of pictures of women wearing horizontally and vertically striped dresses, then asked them to say which of the two they thought was bigger.
Amazingly, his experiment showed that when the two women were the same size, the one wearing the horizontally-striped dress was deemed to be the thinner of the two.
Dr Thompson says: "Horizontal stripes don't make you look fat. If anything, they make you look thinner."
