it depends. Microsoft dominates 80% of most datacenters, mainframes, and other infrastructures......app le laptops are just overpriced, nice gadgets. if you're an IT administrator, a pc gives you so much flexibility and that is priceless. apple is too conservative for some tasks

Maybe, but the other 20% of the stuff in the data center probably runs a shell of some sort, which Microsoft refuses to acknowledge... You know... BASH, KSH, CSH, whatever...

Something Apple has built in for me to manage the rest of the non-windows servers... You know... the stuff that does real work in the datacenter besides being email.

I agree. Linux is almost the backbone of most infrastructure that I've come across......Microsoft have their specialties and I have to admit that their latest Server 08 is a masterpiece......apple will is enjoying whatever they're doing these days, but Microsoft knows that the bulk of their business and existence rely on the Corporate environment

I take no issue with Microsoft... some things are just easy to use. Exchange is easy... IIS is easy... Microsoft did a good job with 2K8... absolutely.

In today's datacenter they are virtual machines though and that VMware or Xen cluster is open source and has a shell... The file servers are all on Netapps or some other NAS now and the workhorse database servers are running linux.

Ever since Oracle bought Sun, the proprietary Unix is gone... Linux is where it's at.

Sold a cinema display, 17" MacBook pro & $2500 worth of software To a banker last week.

Fucker could have gotten by with a decent $600 laptop but Apple makes his dick hard.

I owned a crappy Toshiba and then the Samsung, which was very nice, but this is on another level. It makes me not want to even shop around for laptops, which I always used to do. It is a fantastic machine.

And I got $100 off being a student. $1200 out the door, pricey but well worth it IMO.

And FWIW the battery life is closer to 5 hours with "normal" use. I CAN get 9 but with the screen so damn dark I can barely see it. So, when the situation calls for it, exceptional battery life CAN be had, but around 5-6 hours on the normal daily.

And did I mention how sexy the fucking thing is? Just a joy to be on. I find myself always doing SOMETHING on it because it's just awesome.

And if the AIR had a backlit keyboard I would have bought it, shitty processor and all.

No question, I used to be hardcore PC, but windows has just become a pain in the ass, malware and other crap have driven me to other operating systems, Ive always been a unix/linux , so since OS X is built on BSD it's a perfect match for me, I dual boot most of my PC's with BSD now anyway so it all works out great.

People who complain about virus on pc's are retarded. I have NEVER dealt with a single virus because there are legit programs that deal with that issue. Apple products are stupid expensive and arent any better then a powerful pc along the same price line for what the average person uses a computer for.

People still believe that paying more equates to automatically being better which in the case of pc vs Mac is laughable.

By the way Apple applications suck ass, the hand held devices (Touch, etc) don't even have flash player for fuck sake, can't view half the videos available at certain times. Don't get sucked into Apples slick but bogus marketing.

1400$ for a 13" Mac Pro/2500$ for a 17" . I can get 3 Dells for that price. And what the fuck is with the virus stuff? Nothing on my 17" since purchased 1.5 yrs ago. Adware live and Win 7 do the trick. And no problems connecting and working on my Linux server remotely.

Apple is good for Physics Lab though.

Day - day computing can be done a fucking 400$ Walmart emachine.
