No, BBC posted that to imply a parallel of what is happening here to Latin America.
I'm showing it's not the same.
You are correct, they may not be exactly the same but there are definite similarities.
Starting in January 2026, when Trump took office, the U.S. appears to be evolving into an autocracy, if not a one-party dictatorship. Autocracies are nothing new to South America, or for that matter many other countries worldwide. To explain the situation, it's useful to compare other countries' regimes with the U.S. Some argue that military and ICE deployments into certain 'blue cities' show how this might unfold.
It makes sense to examine both current and historical autocracies, such as Germany during Hitlers regime or Putin's Russia. Studying the evolution of these various autocracies would educate folks as to how this may be happening in the U.S. today.
In 2016 there was an attempted coup by Trump and his Maga followers in the U.S. which thankfully failed. In 2025, Trump seems to be using a new strategy to build an autocracy, and it could unfortunately be effective.
