I'm reserving judgement but yeah..he does have the arm. A 4th quarter 2 minute drill on the road, from a rookie QB. that wasn't bad at all.
I have to agree here. Comming out of college I did not think Smith was even a 2nd round pick. Most college QB's who handle 100% of their snaps in shotgun and never call plays with NFL verbage fail. MOST. Always an exception but you guys know what I mean.
People don't realize in college they come out and say "6" or "BLUE" in some offenses. Yet the easiest NFL would be say if you have 21 personal: 2RB 1TE 2WR and wanted to have the fullback line up on the weak side, TE on right, X receiver run a post, the Y (TE) run quick out, the Z run a fly (go)... the play call would be in basic offenses " I Weak Right 819 ". So all of that has to be learned.
I honestly did not think Smith could handle any offense let alone a west coast like McNabb ran. Groink you are right man, he showed some promise...some skill and instinct that nobody expected in toughest case situation. The game before it was what worried me. Guys like Eli have those games with major INT and fumbles. But Smith had 2 safties in COLLEGE...that is just unheard of. And when I saw him doing that in the NFL I figured he is toast. But the kid is smart and he must have a strong work ethic regardless of what some say. I think looking at him and his laid back look make people think he has poor work ethic.
Gonna be interesting!
